next season outlook

  • I think a 7 or 8 win regular season is realistic enough. We could go higher or lower, but I would at least be somewhat satisfied with this. The Golden recruits are still young, it's gonna take them at least till their junior year for more of them to start making an impact. We're gonna be just as weak at CB next year, maybe a little better if Finnie turns the corner early or if we get a stand out freshman, but we're still young at that position. But hopefully with a year of this system under their belts the current players will make a decent leap in performance. As long as we don't break and give up too many touchdowns I'm happy.

I already can't wait till next season. I hate that little gap between signing day and spring training, but not as much as the huge gap between spring training and fall camp. Sucks that we have no bowl game to at least be excited about, although that ends up being a whole other gap in December to wait, but at least it's one last game. Having discussions on message boards only entertains me so much. I can barely make it through bye weeks, let alone the hell that the off-season is.

Hey staff, is there any way we can get a countdown clock (or something similar) to next season? It's never to early.

  • I would have to say if the team doesn't get to at least 8 to 9 wins, Golden has underachieved.

  • Hey guys here's my twocents Next year I would like to see more consistency overall on both sides of the ball If Miller and Street return on offense it should give us the players we need Dorcett, Walford, Dye, Calhoun, Clements, return if Miller does too big plus and the O-line comes back so we shouldn't lose experience on Offense Morris or Williams will be the QB both know the play book, our O-line needs to drop a couple LB's and get faster too slow and lethargic on running plays this year if you can find a better O line coach good otherwise demote Kehoe. Defense now here's where it gets tricky, hopefully Vernon comes back, Ojomo, Robinson, Forston(med redshirt), Grimble, Chikillo, Williams Porter all return at D line,(all have been here they know the playbook) LB's Cain, Gaine's, Perryman, Green (DP n Chick will be vocal leaders on this team all the guys I've mentioned they've had playing time they have a full off-season to get better with coach d's 4-3/3-4 scheme (notice all the LB's in this class) where I'm concerned is secondary there's your inexperience, Finnie, Armstrong, are the only secondary guys with significant experience, Crawford redshirted, If we can land Bush in this class that would be huge as far as playing right away . Realisticly I say 8 wins next season ACC championship(appearance) given the strength of the conference. Also they key to our secondary developing is a solid front 7 I think we have and will have the horses comming in I believe in this coaching staff till they prove me otherwise this year was a wash needing to flush most of shannon's excrement. • Since we were close in all games except the last one, I would have to expect at least 9 wins. The defense really came together for last quarter of the season and it should keep getting better. The secondary needs to get really better and the O-line should be greatly improved with Linder and Washington playing guard. On offense, it will help a lot having WRs that actually catch the ball, so expect great things from Dorsett and Hurns (instead of TB3 and Byrd).

  • This incoming recruiting class is absolutely critical.

We are at the fork of the road between getting back to the past and sinking deeper into misery.

and if this class turns out to be like 2008, we are screwed.

IMO, men like Chick, Dorsett and Perryman won't allow the 2012 class to be like the 2008 class. They'll lead by example and hold everyone accountable. Unfortunately the 2008 class didn't have peers that set the groundwork for success.

  • I'd say a low of 7 wins and a high of 10 wins seems realistic.

It's all depending on the defense.

We need the defensive line help badly. Hopefully we can get a couple JUCOs on defense. So far we only have 1 DT recruit, not good enough.

Morris vs Williams will be a good battle in camp and practice. I'm excited about our QB situation.

RB we have good depth. Not worried at all.

WR we have some inexperience but we do have some electric freshmen coming in with Waters, AJL, Southward, and Lewis. Also some Streeter like guys in Jones and Carter.

O-line should improve next year hopefully...

Our secondary needs a makeover. Williams, Chambers and Nicolas were the only seniors in the secondary, so Mcgee, Armstrong, Telemaque are returning starters. Legget and Davis most likely will see some playing time as freshmen, maybe Jenkins too, along with any JUCOs or Bush and Howard if we get them.

LB obviously Perryman will be our best returning LB, i expect him to take a leadership role and improve. We have 6 LB recruits right now. I can see Kirby making an impact. Paul, Cain, Buchanan and Gaines will be the others seeing playing time.

My expectation is this team will be good enough to compete every game just like this season and maybe win a few more close ones. So I would say 9 wins is reasonable.

  • You folks predicting 9 wins or more are nuts. Have you watched this team at all this year? The defense is like a sieve. The DL blows. The DBs are non-existent and the LBs are almost decent... and that's our best unit on D. Then throw in an underachieving OL, a new QB with little experience, good WRs and decent RBs and you want 9 wins?! Right! Sure! Keep dreaming.

  • I am thinking next year we win 7 or 8 games, and 2013 will be the year we compete for the ACC (finally).

  • its too soon to be judging to many if's and things can change quick im sticking by my 9 wins which i stated earlier its not a talent drop off because who leaving and alot of kids gained experience i expect to see alot of finne and crawford to help in the secondary the d tackles can only get better i see porter as a starter next year and we should have depth at the position with kids coming back from injuries just the o line need to remain stable and a tight end needs to step up i just know every spot is open again going into this season the person who wants it more gone get it

  • There will be a huge improvement in AG's second year just like JJ's. We have 16 or 17 returning starters. That's huge! IMO you will see a big upgrade at the QB position in terms of making big plays. Remember the QB position is half the battle.

We will play for the ACC championship next year vs FSU or Clemson. See you guys in North Carolina on Dec 1st, 2012 @ 8:00 PM.

    I'm not predicting 9 wins.

I'm just saying anything short of 8~10 should be considered a definite step back.

  • DON'T SLEEP ON RYAN WILLIAMS(QB) TRANSFER FROM MEMPHIS. IT WOULDN'T SURPRISE IF HE BEATS OUT S. MORRIS(QB), FOR THE STARTING SPOT NEXT YEAR. I BELIEVE HE WILL EARN THE STARTING JOB NEXT YEAR OVER MORRIS, FAIR AND SQUARE. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION GROGZ26.

  • I AGREE WITH YOU JOVEN CANE WE WILL BE A MUCH BETTER TEAM AND HAVE MUCH MORE DEPTH NEXT YEAR.
I EXPECT TO WIN BETWWEN 9-10 GAMES, ANYTHING LESS IS A DISSAPPOINTMENT.

  • Like I said-5-6 wins.

You guys can believe all you want that the incoming class is going to immediately change everything around but it won't. Freshman dotted all around the offense and defense is going to be difficult. It'll take a few years for these guys to get experience to become good.

I'm not trying to be a downer or anything, but this is how it is going to be. Everything is not going to fall into place just because the seniors leave and we get freshman.

Notre Dame is going to be tough and they will beat us at Soldier Field. FSU is still ahead of us and they'll beat us. I still think VT will get the better of us and beat us. And you can just always throw in another 2-3 losses against teams we should've beat but we didn't.

I don't mind you guys having optimistic opinions. I just don't want everyone to start getting pissed at Golden because he doesn't get (9 wins or whatever). Look at Golden with Temple. It took him 3 years year to get better because at the 3 years he got guys he needed for his system. It's going to be the same in Miaim.

I agree that some people are being slightly optimistic, but I really think we can make big strides next year. If you look at our roster we really don't lose a whole lot. We played so many inexperienced players this year already that are coming back. Even Miller was in his 1st year as a full-time starter. Morris, Hurns, Streeter, Walford, Bunche, Feliciano, Linder, and a ton of guys on defense were all getting their first significant playing time this year, and are all coming back. Plus every player on this team will be in their 2nd year of the AG process, I expect many guys to take further steps forward. 9 wins may not be as out of the question as it appears.

It's that DL and those DB's that I'm worried about. Defense is going to be scary next year (in a bad way).

Oh I agree with you there. If we win the games we are supposed to win, we could get 8 wins next year.

But like this year, Miami lost about 3 games they should've not loss.

Miami will still have inexperience particularly on defense that is going to hurt us.

I see what you mean but other than replacing Spence I just don't see how we could be any worse. AG will have these guys lift weights a ton, which should help with injuries btw, and we will be much stronger of a team. We only lose Regis and Andrew Smith and Marcus Robinson if you count him on the DL. I agree Regis was solid, and I think Robinson quietly had a very good season, but I really don't see where we take a step backwards. Chick and Vernon will be very good, Chick in his 2nd year and Vernon with a full year will be great, he played better and better down the stretch. Darius Smith will be very valuable bc we need a guy to take up blocks off our LB's. Porter, Forston, Grimble, Pierre, Luther Robinson, Ojomo, and some freshman or JUCO's will be in the middle, basically the same guys but most should be improved with another off-season. Ricardo Williams, Jelani Hamilton, Shayon Green will be the other DE's. Grimble, Ojomo and Pierre will probably be in hybrid roles to help depth. I think that group will be much better. Still an average group, but not horrible like this year.
