another fsu player arrested

  • TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say Florida State tailback James Wilder Jr. was arrested after a confrontation with deputies.
Florida's Leon County Sheriff's Office reports the 19-year-old was at a Tallahassee apartment Tuesday when deputies went to arrest a 20-year-old woman for missing a court appearance. As a deputy escorted the woman to a patrol car, a sheriff's report says, Wilder stepped between the deputy and the woman and pushed the deputy.
Wilder was arrested and charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer without violence and battery on the officer. Jail records show he was released on $2,000 bail.
Wilder's first season with the Seminoles was in 2011. He is the son of James Wilder, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' all-time career rushing leader.

  • There is a thread on here about it already.

Not that big of deal IMO. Young kid making a poor choice in the heat of the moment. Hopefully he learns his lesson.

(Not to get off the subject, but the BOURQUE kid who signed to Tennessee, I spoke to his uncle one of the main reasons he didn't pick Miami was because his family was scared he would get caught up in the streets being in a big city...From the conversation it sounded like the kid was really a troubled kid, he stayed in Trouble!!!)

  • Cops arresting him for just stepping in front of him during an arrest is just the Police over-reacting! In the heat of the moment he was trying to protect his girlfriend, not a wise choice, but nothing to be arrested for IMO!

The guy allegedly stepped in front of the arresting officer and his girlfriend in an attempt to get her from being arrested, not exactly a troubled student. He has been dating this girl for going on 6 years, if my girlfriend was being arrested for something as small as a missed court date, im not sure if I would just stand by either.

    NoleBrave03

  • Missed court date isn't small...its automatic. And it's not like they were taking her to jail for something she didn't do...or wouldn't be released for within hours most likely. You fight law enforcement in court not on the field. Life 101

Sorry my man but when you make contact with a law enforcement officer while they are making an arrest its obstruction any way you look at it.

I'm not bashing the kid he made a poor choice in the heat of the moment. If it was a misunderstanding it would have been cleared up when his girlfriend was taken to booking.

He'll learn his lesson but its nothing That's gonna end his career

  • I have a question if anyone knows the answer to this Id greatly appriciate it.

Everytime a UF player gets arrested I see the same lawyer representing them. Is this legal? I mean shouldn't the player have to get his own lawyer or public defender? How could they afford this guy?? I know he's on retainer by the university, but it would seem like an "extra benefit" to have a top notch lawyer represent these players everytime they get into trouble.

Or is it because the player is an extension or representing the school that they are allowed to be represented by a lawyer paid for by the university. Just curious thanks fellas

The lawyer is a permissible benefit. Extra Benefits is an often used poor choice of phrasing. Every football gets extra benefits that wouldn't otherwise be available to them if they were regular students.

It's the "impermissible benefits" that get players/programs in trouble.

Swag Bags or Free Legal is allowed. Cars and Cash from a booster is not.

  • Of all the men on this board. If it were you in this situation, and you're girl was being arrested, what would you do? Real talk man. I been with my wife 14 years, depending on how the cop handles her...if its rough, we both going to jail. If he handles with care, i'm heading to the bail bonds in record time.
