Williams vs Morris

  • In today's herald it says the word on UM QB Ryan Williams: Extremely accurate, Phillip Dorsett said, adding he's more accurate than Stephen Morris and has a stronger arm than Jacory Harris. But Dorsett said Morris is more mobile and throws a better deap ball.

    May the best QB win as this will make us a better tream!

    My question is do you prefer the more accurate arm or the stronger arm and more mobile QB?

    A ok arm with great accuracy is fine.

    A great arm with ok accuracy is not as good.

  • Personally, I choose accuracy. My very ignorant understanding of a pocket-passer is someone who can sit in that pocket and dissect the defense like a general and then make the pass; so mobility is not something I've paid too much attention to. I love Morris, but if Williams is definitely more accurate, then I'd have to go with Williams.

    Of course, this is all meaningless if neither of them has that general brain. If Morris is smarter than Williams, then I'll deal with the lower standard of accuracy. I just want to get back to a smart QB.

    Agreed. Mobility is nice when the play breaks down, but most plays shouldn't break down so the question is who will maximize our gains on every play. I will always choose accuracy so long as it is combined with good decision making. In other words, Ken Dorsey over Kenny Kelley. If Williams can sit in the pocket, make a decision quickly and then put it right where it needs to be, then I would take that over a guy who can throw it 60 yards on a rope any day. But if he takes too long to make decisions (see Joe Flacco...) then all that accuracy is for not because he will be sacked or intercepted too much. In that case, you need the stronger arm and mobility to overcome slow decision making.

  • Truth be told, Morris is pretty accurate. Most of his interceptions were forced or telegraphed, not because of inaccuracy, so it's a compliment to Williams that he is more accurate. The thing I want to see from our quarterback is quick decision making and good footwork. Mobility is overrated if you don't have pocket presence.

    You hit the nail on the head. I think that first, who fits into our offensive scheme better? How much more accurate is Williams? How much better is Morris in terms of the big play? And like quite a few of you have mentioned, it may just come down to decision making...

    He also went 10-2 and had 28 TD's in his final year in college. Morris i think has more of a upside. Accuracy can be learned, arm strength can't

  • Lazarre, I think your wrong with proper technique and certain exercises arm speed can be in creased. Its all about coaching and buying in 100% to what ur told.

    Sorry i don't agree. Matt Leinart arm no matter exercises he does will never be like Jay Culter's. Somethings just can't be taught or train.
