Why are we so quick to offer.....

  • recruits from the Tallahassee area, like this RB Khalid Thomas from Godby, when they don't even have an FSU offer yet. If the kid was really that legit then wouldn't FSU know that and have offered already. I've noticed this with other recruits in past years. I just want to know the strategy behind it, not questioning AG's recruiting skills at all. I just know we have limited spots in this class so why not wait until we know where we stand with the elite recruits.

  • Because they don't care what FSU does?

    They trust their own evaluations.

  • So we should only offer kids if FSU offers them? There is kids in Miami with FSU offers without UM offers.

Im not saying that. But isnt it a valuable point that if a school doesnt offer a recruit in their backyard, then you should wonder why? Just like other schools would wonder why we wouldnt offer certain kids in the miami area. UM should know more about miami based kids than any other school in the country and visa versa.

  • FSU actually has had a top ten recruiting class the last 8 years except for one, they finished 15 that year. What do they have to show for it. At Miami, Goldens plan is to offer kids that fit his plan. His ideals. If he doesnt like something about a kid, he wont offer just cause someone else does. He evaluates the state of Florida heavily. As do the other coaches. While someone like Khalid Thomas might fit for Golden, someone like Stacey Coley obviously to this point does not.

  • Hey Bro I got one name for you that played in the superbowl.....Jason pierre paul....He was never offered and he was in our backyard. He made someone at the University of South Florida look real good.

That should be the case, but it's not. There are plenty of kids from south Florida that dont have offers from The "U". Sometime it's due to need and sometime it's just better scouting or football scheme.

Theres exceptions to everything. Why didnt FSU offer Holifield? bc he didnt even start for his hs team but apperantly we saw "potential" that FSU didnt and they had limited spots last year. We have limited spots this year so shouldnt we be a little more selective with our offers? I'm not saying dont offer a freeman type at all, I'm just saying it may raise some red flags. Don't you think FSU people were wondering why we didnt offer Freeman?

If your not questioning AG recruiting skills why post this? I'm pretty sure Golden n staff have taken the number of scholarships we have this upcomming year into consideration and I'm also confident they,ve gone over next years needs with a fine tooth comb and already know who they want and need. Essentialy he built depth at positions of need so he and staff can concentrate on balancing the depth chart with the right amount of talent at every position, which is something this team has been lacking. this isnt something ive noticed from just AG, but from all coaches from all schools for a number of years. Just wanted to bring it up to get everyones opinions and i was quickly reacting to what i saw on TOS. Just something ive always thought about but never brought up. Pretty much from seeing fsu not offer certain tally kids and miami not offer certain dade kids.

  • kid from tallahassee will probably want to go to FSU and kids from Miami want to go to the U.

now, if we beat FSU offering a kid from their area, maybe we have a better chance of getting him.

    I wouldn't really question Golden's recruiting (yet)

Here's what I hope is going on behind the scenes.

Golden is an intelligent and screwed customer so he realizes that he can't afford to get into a lot of knock down drag out fights for all the big ticket recruits in the area because the Miami brand is tarnished right now due to several years of playing like dookie. Right now he is going through the prospect pool with a fine tooth comb in an effort to identify players who will perform well in college but not be so great in high school that all the big time schools chase after them. If he can rack up a lot of good but not great players in the first couple of go rounds then he can put a good team on the field. One that could win the conference or at least generate enough buzz on Saturdays in the Fall to show all the hot shot recruits that Miami is really trending upward.

Good coaches don't need great players to win in this conference. Just look at what Beamer has done in Blacksburg. You don't know his players when they commit but you sure know them when their winning ten plus games a year and multiple conference titles. The problem Beamer has is he just can't enough great players into Hokie-land so their potential is always limited when they get on the big stage. Golden on the other hand sits atop the most fertile recruiting ground in the nation so getting great players wont be a hassle for him.

He just needs to be good enough to get this team to pop off one good time and that will open up the flood gates.

That being said, I hope he does stick to his principle and continues to perform the personal evaluations that he says he does. Just that in the future I would like to see him raise his sights a little higher.

Success in the fall will bring success on signing day. Crap in the fall will bring crap on signing day.
