Wait.... What?? Did I read this right??

  • So I read this on ESPN just now... See if you guys read it the same way I did...

"The one thing that I think is that people want to see the best teams play," Saban said and Matt Scalici of Al.com relayed. "They don't want a bunch of conference champions to end up playing in a championship game. If we do that, did we accomplish what we set out to accomplish? Hell no.

Sooooo.... Nobody wants to see CONFRENCE CHAMPIONS playing in a Playoff?? Excuse me?? Sounds to me like Saban is quite biased and maybe a little afraid of some competition... Ive never minded Saban because I don't live in Miami and couldn't care less about him leaving the Fins... But this has me kinda rubbed the wrong way.

  • The best teams aren't always conference champions is what he's saying. Last year Alabama wasn't the the conference champion, but they clearly were better than LSU in the end. I believe that's what he means. The third best team in the SEC would kill the the big east champion.

  • He probably said that because he didn't win conference championship and he still made the national championship game. Protecting his team when they get out played in the season.

I understand Saban's point of view and to an extent I agree with him. But we need a play-off NOW. If the only way to get it done is to have the 4 highest ranked conference champs then so be it. I doubt that the Big East Champ will ever make the cut. Besides if you can't win your conference, then you can't complain. After we get the play-off set, then maybe we can expand it later to include the highest ranked teams regardless of conference champs . But, right now we just need to get the deal done.

  • I really believe this is a good topic.... I think in some cases it's hard to say, because in some conferences are stronger than others... Like the SEC, the team that finishes 4 or 5 would win the Big East and ACC... (and maybe the Pac 10)

Why can't they follow the same tournament style like in Basketball, I think that would be better... A lot more games in a short time...

If Coach Satin is correct, doesn't that make the regular season irrelevant? I do not think this is what the NCAA really wants.

  • I hate to say it, but no offense would have looked good against Bama and LSU defenses... Just my opinion, the SEC has some good offense in it and none of them shined against either defense... But I would love to something done about the polls or computers deciding who plays in the Bowl games(especially the national championship)....

I really think the way the basketball tournament works, it would definately work for football... They start the bowl games like in November and it ends in January.... So time isn't an issue, maybe they shouldn't have as much teams but I think a tournment like in basketball would work in football...

I think all the conference champions should be admitted, and then a committee could choose the rest of the teams... (Not a computer) Based on strong of schedule, not just based on what conference you play in...
