Tyriq McCord at LB?

  • Some recruiter sportscasters were saying Tyriq could also play at LB with his size and speed. They also said that he could be better at LB because he's a bit too small to help stop the rush.

What are your thoughts on this, guys?

  • i think UM should use him the same way the Broncos use Vaughan Miller juggle

  • I'd prefer the ends to be 260+ to give those LB's a little extra room to roam. To me Mcords frame looks pretty filled out unless he grows up a couple of inches. I didn't see much of his pass coverage abilities on film but he looked like a LB out there layn the wood.

  • If we lose Northrup from this class I think it would be smart to move him back to SLB & let him occasionally blitz from the outside. We have the future ILB & WLB locked in with Perryman & Kirby respectively.

  • The only time I've seen him play was the Army all star game and I was very unimpressed with him as a down lineman. I think he's probably 40+ lbs and several years away from having a chance as a defensive end. For him to have any impact early in his career, he's going to have to be a stand up edge rush as a LB imo.

I definitely agree. I'm a fan of fast DEs, but not at the cost of compromising the "stone wall" as I call the D-Line.

Homey, Kirby has not played a down of College Football. Give him time.

We have some pretty good young LBs on this team now.

I truly hope he RS! That would mean our team is getting better!

WE DON'T NEED FRESHMEN STARTING FOR US!

I'm pretty sure we're going to have a good number of freshmen starting. Will it all be freshmen? No, I don't think so; but be prepared for the boys to start. Our depth at 3/4 of our positions suck as of now and we're expecting 30+ kids to come in; that means there's going to be a good chance a freshman starts at a position or two.

Honestly, I have no problem with seeing a good number of freshmen on the field. It'll be incredibly fun to watch our new Hurricanes and the future of the program. I'm not saying to treat next year as just a "practice year" for freshmen, but it'll still be fun nevertheless.

  • I see him as a 3-4 OLB

With the lack of experienced depth this team possesses he is going to play next year. As long as he is productive I don't care if he plays corner. Frankly, a lot of the players currently on the UM roster don't seem to be very dynamic. McCord along with a handful of the other incoming freshmen have to play next year.

  • We can't play too many freshman, we will be in huge trouble if we do! I like the optimism but realisticly underdeveloped and inexperienced players on the field don't = success! What we really need to do is red shirt, the current players are the key to future success, if they can play well and allow for guys to redshirt that would be huge! Very few true freshman actually make an impact.

We're not going to have a lot of freshmen starting. If anything, you'll see Golden redshirt a LOT of these guys. Why? It has to do with the future and the sanctions. We have players to play next year on the field. Backers? Paul, Perryman, Cain. I think you will see Golden try to redshirt everybody, but guys like Deon Bush because we're so thin at CB...

I agree, my man. We don't need ANY freshmen starting for us other than Deon Bush and that's a maybe.

Don't worry coach, I never thought we would start a lot of freshman. I only said that I think we will have a freshman start at one position or two.

  • People are forgetting that we have some very good RS freshmen and sophomores next year who I think will surprise!

    UReady

  • with 4.5 speed and his size, he should at LEAST be a special teams freak for us next year
