Strenghts and weaknesses...

  • What are your guys is strenghts and weaknesses? I would say for FSU our strenght will be the defense and special teams. All except maybe mlb as I am not sold on Williams. On offense, I think the running game should be solid. The wr came on towards the end of last year, so I am hoping for more improvement. I like Manuel as a qb, but I need to see more to make a final opinion as he does make a couple boneheaded throws a game. He does find a way to win though. If he goes down, we are in trouble. We have no one behind him that has played a snap of college ball. What say you Cane fans?

Quarterback and cornerback as far as weakness. Offensive line and running backs will be strengths.

We have dynamic return men as usual but kicking and punting will be a huge question mark for us.

  • I would also add...

DE: 4 very good players in Ojomo, Vernon, Smith, and Robinson

S: Ray Ray and VT are the best safety duo in the ACC

If Jeremy Lewis and Luther Robinson step up and can become quality depth guys, DT can be a strength with Forston, Porter, and Regis

  • Thanks for the responses. I love they VT plays, he is all over the place. What is the deal with the qbs? Is it coaching or Harris and Morris can't read the defense? I think that is what is going to hurt you guys the most. It is hard for a defense to stop other teams offenses when they get a short field bc of your qb.

  • Our strength is 7 returning wins. Our weakness is 6 awful losses including the beat down you guys handed us last year.

  • In all seriousness though, our strength is Golden and our weakness are the people who aren't on board which I believe is more than the people who have transferred out thus far. It's going to be a weeding out process. Different than what you guys had because I think the players themselves at FSU wanted Bowden to go as much as they loved him and wanted/needed a breath of fresh air in Fisher.

    coachgomez12312

  • I agree with your comments about players were ready to move on from Bowden. I think you see kids getting weeded out any time a new coach comes in. I have no clue on if Golden will be the right fit or not. I know I didn't care for how he handled the Storm Johnson transfer. I understand blocking the ACC and the Florida schools, but I didn't get him blocking all the other schools.

I agree. Our strength will be the O and D-line. Qb's and Corners concern me ALOT.

I think FSU has a solid secondary and d-line. I think Qb is questionable if Manuel goes down.

I also think thier coaching is solid. FSU and UM need to play in the ACC title game for the ACC to get some respect.

Until then, the ACC gets little respect compared to the SEC. It pains me to say it but IMO its true.

  • RB and Offensive line is def. our strength on offense. DE and Safety is our strength on defense. I do think our LB's will end up being a strength and be very good! DT has Skill there but just lack of depth and experience behind the starters. And CB honestly scares me to death to think about. NO experience what so ever there. There will likely be a converted safety and RB starting. Im hoping that the true freshman Finnie and Crawford can be solid and maybe take the starting spot this fall at some point cuz that would be GREAT in the long run. Got to agree with coach that Golden is a strength to this team too. I know alot of people question Golden being from Temple and all but anyone who has followed this program closely see's that Golden was a huge upgrade. IMO he is the perfect fit for this job.

Our season will basically be as good as our QB's decide to be. If they play mistake free football and manage the game well then there is no reason this team can't win 9-10 games during the regular season.

What is your opinion on UM?

  • I like your offense and defense lines. I think Lamar Miller is a great back. I do not see a lot of depth behind him though. I personally do not think Harris or Morris are that good. That will cause teams to try and load the box. I do not know much about your wr. Last year the only one I was impressed with was Hankerson and he is gone. Benjamin drops a lot of balls for me kind of like Bert Reed for FSU. I like Spence, but that is the only lb that scares me. I think you guys have really good safeties, but cb leaves a lot to be desired. Bosher is finally gone(it seemed like he was there forever) so I do not know who your punter or kicker will be.

  • I would say that our running back corps, offensive line unit, defensive line unit, and our safeties will have the most success this year. These positions I have mentioned in my previous sentence all have depth and play-makers. Our greatest concerns would be at quarterback and our cornerback unit. Our quarterback unit has been having some consistency problems in the past. Our quarterbacks are also very prone making bad decisions and throwing interceptions. I believe our cornerback unit has a lot of room to grow; especially freshman Thomas Finnie who I suspect will have a great future here at The University of Miami. That is my post, I thank you dearly for reading my first reply to a post.

  • I think we will be solid on D. Our front 7 will be very good. I actually like our LB core a lot better this year then i did last year. We will finally have a true MLB starting who makes plays w/ Cookie & Spence on the outside. Secondary is my biggest concern (even more than QB). NEED Brandon McGee to put it all together, step up, & lock down one side. Then we need a few other guys to step in and compete. (Williams, Payne, Finnie, Chambers, Clements) Also need safeties to play a lot better. No more of this piss poor tackling from VT or bad angles from Ray. They COULD be the best safety combo in the NCAA, if they finally reach their potential. Not sold on them doing it, but if the light clicks on they could be scary good.

O-line should be best in the ACC. RB's will be VERY solid, maybe even great. WR needs a few vets to step up (Byrd, Benjamin, Johnson, Streeter, Tompkins) & hopefully Hurns will produce. Obviously QB play will make or break our season. Not as worried as most with our QB's. I expect JH to win the job but either way i think we will call our offense more to their strengths & have way less TO's. Feel like our old OC asked too much out of them with the struggles they were going through. Besides, DC's knew to expect the deep ball 1 out of 3 plays, so i think you'll see quicker passes, more check downs, dump off to RB's, screens, etc. Need TE to play a big factor to help out QB's, so we need Cleveland, Walford, Ayles & Ford to help out.

Also hopefully someone will step in at Kicker and do a good job. Think the new punter (Botts?) will do just fine. Obviously if they dont it could cost us a few games.
