Hey dat, I think they will piggy back off the NCAA Prez stuff and not give more. This is a hard penalty.

I really hope so for at least penn state can try to overcome these sanctions

I respect your opinion! I definitely do but at the same time, let's put this in a perspective and I think that people on here are lost when looking at the case! It's not too harsh! This cover up went from the football program (joe paterno) all the way to the president (spanier) which went on for 14 years! Paterno covered this up to save the programs reputation! Give me a break! We are talking about kids here and them being molested in the football locker room with people in the school administration covering up and then giving the monster a office still after what they knew, I cannot accept that! We are talking about kids! That cannot be underestimated! And this reeks up lack of institutional control and when his was brought up, the only thing you can say is that the punishment went to far, PLEASE! If it was up to me, I had no problem with the punishment, I just wish the money would have been more than just 60 million!

I understand your outrage, but Im talking about directly linking the punishments with the offenders and the NCAA is terrible at that, and especially in this case. and as you said, if it went all the way up to the president, and this punishment is justified, why is the school itself not being punished? The schools academic reputation itself was also protected along with the football program, so why is that not being punished? I obviously dont think that should happen but if the line of logic follows this punishment, it opens up pandora's box for so much punishment to any entity even remotely related to PSU.

then what leg do we have to stand on with the Shapiro scandal? The football program benefitted, so waht can we say then if this jsutified? Instead of one rogue booster, PSU had a handful of people who acted on behalf of the program without the rest of the program even knowing it. A case could easily be made that the current players and coaches who had nothing to do with this are now faultless victims. ITs like the governement or the SEC trying to punish Enron after their CEO and CFO already screwed the company over. All that would have done is punish the staff and employess that were still there that had no knowledge of the things being done (this is assuming it hadnt shut its doors already)

Im not saying we have a leg to stand on bc we don't if we broke rules we should be punished. Im just referring to any comment saying this scandal had nothing to do with the football program. I understand punishing the people who do the acts but at the same time u won't clean it up all the way by doing that. Programs have to be directly affected to get the understanding of the punishment. U can fire all the staff and people involved u want but the ideology will still be there

  • The Big Ten just dropped an additional $15mils santions on Penn State aside the Initial $60mils totaling the cost to $75mils, talk about an uphill battle..

I again respect your opinion but at the same time, you asked why is the school not being punished, oh I think they are! To the tune of 60 million dollars! That's punishment within itself and I only wish they could have gotten them for more money! 60 million for them is peanuts as they make that in one season from football revenue!

  • They should have begged for the death penalty.

  • Put Your self in the shoes of one of these victims or a parent I myself have 2 kids. Let me tell you if I found out that my kid was being raped and the school or where ever it might have happened and officials knew about it and did nothing to stop it or prevent it from happening again and again to my child or even some else's child point blank they would have to kill me. Then ontop of that some tell me that just because none of the people involved are no longer there that the place ( in this case the school) shouldn't be penanilized it really make me lose it. This case goes above and beyond anything that has happened before. This was a unethical coverup to protect a legacy all the while this rapist did what he wanted on school grounds. You can't tell me wether this happened hear at the U or any other school you wouldn't demand servere punishment for the ones guilty and the establishment they work for. There isn't enough justice that can be done to compensate for amount of anguish and pain these poor victims suffered.

  • To me the death penalty means when the completely shut the program down. While missing bowl games while hurt the pocket books the still will be allowed to compete and b on tv. Atleast they still will make a lil money. But yea it was pretty close though

Yeah but its only for one or two years. In two years Penn St will still have a team full of 1 and 2 star players. Where as if they just dropped the team all together for a year or two, they could start going after top recruits again and get back to normal quicker. This will drag out 10 years, at least!

They came up with that $60 million number becuase that was the expected income from the football program for one year, so they are making it exclusively about football. I was talking academically, becuase the school's reputation as an institution of higher learning was also protected by this scandal, so why arent they going after funds, grants or donations that the school acquired during this period as well? Its ridiculous, but if you can justify these sanctions, you can jsutify sanctioning the school's academic program or any other athletic program that was shielded jsut like the football program because even the pres was involved. PUt it this way, if a professor or dean had seen what the janitor saw and didnt say anything, could/would they do this to the school? NO, so why should they be able to because it was related to football? To me its a criminal matter, not an out-of-court, public opinion matter to be judged by the NCAA, who has no acountability to anyone. Im sure well have to agree to disagree but if the NCAA can do this, there are absolutely NO LIMITS to their authority, they are worse than Goodell.
