PRO DAY(so far)

  • Nobody put up eye gauging numbers that's for certain. I thought Miller and Benjamin would get 4.2s for certain but nevertheless, the RS Resigme is slowly vanishing and the Golden Boys are becoming the leaders of the team so it's out with the old and in with the new

  • I agree with you guys here. I'd hate to be too hard on them and I don't really know them, but it sure seems like every decision they've made while at the U have been decisions I disagreed with or that seemed selfish. And then this. Skipping this opportunity when you've already made a questionable decision entering the draft in the first place just seems wierd. Again, it seems like they feel entitled to whatever draft position they want, and I think there's going to be a rude awakening when most of these guys are either undrafted or cut in 2 years. It's sad, but I think brighter days are ahead.

  • This just speaks volumes to why we so underachieved the last 4 years. Just think if these guys would have really put in the work for 4 years. We were 6-6 with high school strength. I would bet the farm, that when these guys get to the NFL and they will work the dog shit out of them, you will see more stars come out of this class. The talent is there, but Randy did nothing with it!

  • Did I mention I'm so glad that this 08 class is gone?...

Our freshmen and sophomores (Goldens recruits) would kill these guys in the weight room. Like they would embarass them right now.

Doesn't have to do with the players, more the staff. The s&c reports to the head coach, and implements a program to meet the goals set by the coach. I'd assume Shannon never wanted strength as the goal moreso speed, therefore you're seeing these numbers. The 08 class or any class for that matter would be different if they worked out under the new program during their time.

You got it absolutely right. These guys for the most part were selfish and unwilling to put in the work. hence when they had the option to come back and put in the work they chose to instead take the money and run. Good riddance to all of them. None of them impressed me at the combine. NONE of them. I thought Streeter would do it big at the combine and he fell flat on his face as far as Im concerned. Shoot. He plain quit on one ball that was thrown to him. I mean, really? You're gonna quit.... at the combine... Then not only are you going to not perform at the combine, you're not going to even attempt to perform at the pro day... yeah. GTFO good riddance to all of them. I wish them luck. But I will not miss their attitude.

Scott get off LIMDU and show these guys how its done!!

lol you guys kill me you do know that probably no more than 20 guys in the history of the NFL have run a legit ''laser'' timed 4.2s right? But after reading this thread and site thoroughly these last few months i'm almost certain most of you guys have no football knowledge and have never stepped on a football field before lol.

The 08 class just pisses me off more then any other class. That's all.

So much damn hype and they didn't do crap with the exception of Spence. And even Spence could have done better if he had better coaching.

    20 guys?
I wouldn't put it close to that.
4.4 is good enough for me as it's been good enough for the pros since as long as I've been alive. 4.4 has always been world class speed, anything under 4.4 is just incredible.
You only have to look at Chris Rainey to know that's true.

  • cant wait to hear what the ITU staff has to say, according to tos there was alot of scouts on hand from nearly every team and plenty of coaches. for the sounds of things they did pretty good during individual drills and about the 12 reps sean spence did, he said he was injured with a deep bone bruise in his shoulder during the senior bowl so he wanted to show coaches and teams that he was still willing to compete and will retest when healthy.....sounds like we jumped the gun alittle bit here, certainly i did, with the workout numbers...there was a bunch of good feedback to i guess we'll have to see

Yeah make sure u put the emphasis on some! Wasn't more than 20 guys?!? Please! Cj Spiller and Jacoby did it the same year along with 3 others. Both were track guys just the same as Miller and Benjamin. And there have been close to 20 guys run a laser 4.2 the past 7-10 years. Mr. John Madden! Get your facts together before u try to put someone on blast

  • Here's what Pauline from Sports Illustrated said about the pro day for UM.

In Coral Gables, Florida a number of former Miami Hurricanes impressed scouts with athletic workouts.

Receiver Aldarius Johnson, who was suspended for the 2011 campaign due to off-field infractions, and Laron Byrd, a highly rated senior wideout who put up pedestrian numbers last season, both sizzled on at their pro day.

Johnson measured just under 6-2 and weighed 208 pounds. His 40 times clocked in the low 4.4-second range, with a few watches reading 4.40. Byrd, who is slightly larger and was considered a potential third-round choice entering the season, ran a tad slower, timing 4.45 seconds. Both wideouts caught the ball well during workouts, showing the ability to easily adjust and catch the errant throw in stride.

Also impressing was underrated safety JoJo Nicolas. He measured 6-0, 196 pounds and ran a time of 4.56 in the 40. During drills, Nicolas showed impressive ball skills and the ability to cover large amounts of area in a short time. He performed much better than expected and set himself up as a potential late-round choice.

Defender Olivier Vernon ran under 4.7 seconds today, the time he hoped to clock at the combine. His weight was 262 pounds and afterward Vernon looked explosive and fast in linebacker drills.

Here's a list of 30 NFL guys to finish the 40 Yard Dash under a 4.3 WHICH MEANS THEY RAN A 4.2!!!

  • Only 6 of those ran under 4.3 timed electronically.
The list of guys under 4.3 is pretty impressive and I have no doubt a lot of those
guys would have timed under 4.3 electronically, but hand timing is just not as accurate,
and I mean there's definitely a plus/minus margin of error.
Look at your list where Taylor Mays stands, elect. timed at 4.43 but hand timed at 4.24 which would make him the fastest safety who ever lived and tied with Chris Johnson as the
fastest player in the NFL....if you believe the hand time, which is pretty obviously inaccurate.

And your list says that Don Beebe was one of the 10 fastest players in the history of the NFL?
Anybody know what Mercury Morris' or Bob Hayes' 40 times were?
When Skeets Nehemiah went to Frisco they said he was the fastest guy ever.
Heck, I'm 47 and if you hand timed me I could get under 4.3.....as long as you were liberal
    with your stop and start.

Real, looking at the list you provided, you seem to make Isiah's point. If you will notice there are a few guys that ran times after 2000, when all times started being laser timed, that are in that top 30 that are not on the official laser timed list. Plus you can pretty much throw out all those 4.1's, those are total BS from the era of hand timing. If you saw the combine the year the big USC safety ran a unofficial 4.2, but turned out to really be in the 4.45 range, which isn't bad for a 230lb safety, but no 4.2

I wish we could see a young Darrell Green run a laser timed forty.

I think he is one of the few who could actually hold on to his hand timed mark.

Bo Jackson at 4.12? No so much.

It would be interesting to see, but I'm big on evolution. In every sport or walk of life, the younger generation get bigger and faster. Hard for me to believe that these older guys with less training technology are that much faster then these young guys. The fastest laser time we've seen is 4.24 and that is flying, 4.1 anything is just illegal!
