Northrup and FSU

Doesn't everyone negatively recruit? Isn't that how you get kids to flip?

But you don't say that a school is lying. You can do negative recruiting with at least a little bit of class.

  • I'm not sure what the original poster is saying here. Is Northrup gonna be a Cane or not? Did they pull an offer or something?

But here's the real: Jimbo is VERY dirty. He has Dameyune Craig doing all the dirty work. This has nothing to do with the Jameis Winston recruitment. Bama messed that one up on their own by courting Kiel in the same class. Its more to do with their recruitment of Goldman and Chris Casher and the comments by some local Mobile high school coaches. FSU is playing the race card against the Tide. So it doesn't surprise me that they would use the NCAA against Miami.

what local coaches, I live in Mobile and know a few of the HS coaches as a matter of fact I know Casher OC from Faith Academy the school he left.... Craig is a legend in Mobile, coaches respect him.... unless you know first hand don't assume.... Casher dad is a HUGE FSU fan.... Jimbo is not dirty and neither is Craig.....

They have some fragmented sentences and it's hard to tell who the pronouns are referring to. But the gist is that FSU is using negative recruiting as far as our sanctions go to pull in recruits like Northrup. Interested to know who else this may have been used on.

Personally, I feel as if Miami does have an idea on what the sanctions will be (not that bad) and that's how they have pulled in this top 10 class. I really think that if Miami is going to get hit hard and that they (Miami) know this, it would be wrong to lie to recruits, who most likely would be granted a transfer if the sanctions are that bad. This is all speculation but overall, I'm not big on negative recruiting and I know that Al Golden doesn't approve of it either.

It can be a dangerous practice for programs to speculate as to the severity of sanctions. The NCAA is a complete wild card when it comes to sanctions. They don't cite precedent at all in most cases, they kinda just make it up as they go. I would hope that Golden isn't in anyway trying to speculate as to the severity of potential sanctions. I would hope that he just points out how cooperative the program has been and references all of steps Miami has taken to appease the NCAA before sanctions are revealed. Even if he just speculates as to severity of sanctions and doesn't promise anything it could still backfire. If the actual sanctions are worse then predicted then players could feel jaded and look to jump ship. And you better believe the NCAA would let them out of the commitments if they chose to leave.

Nole fan coming in peace. I agree with you about the sanctions at first when the media got hold of the story they blew it up trying to make it seam like the U from earlier. I have now changed my thinking because it did make for a great headlines for the new. By no means, did I want the U to be on sanctions. I want all The Fla teams to be very competitive and in the hunt for the MNC unless they are playing FSU respectively. I dont know if FSU are using these tactics and a hope not. When I was being recruited teams we never say another college was great all spread some hate but not to that level. I think AG has done a tremendous job with recruiting in the situation he is in and still recruiting a A+ class. Like I said, I hope the U do not go on sanctions especially if OSU just got a spank on the hand.

  • Cmon Canes. You really expect schools NOT to use the Shapiro.NCAA thing against you? As far as FSU lying to Northrup, that's pure speculation. Dont get the redass just because one person posts a rumor on a message board

Yes we would like I think that other programs have a shred of integrity and can sell a kid on their program under their own merits.

Negative recruiting is like making fun of the fat kid in school. You're so insecure in what you have to offer that you have to degrade somebody else's flaws, thinking it makes you better by comparison. If a coach isn't confident enough in his own program, that he can't sell a recruit on his school's merits alone, he's probably in the wrong profession.

You obviously dont know much about recruiting. Its a dirty game and EVERYONE is dirty to a degree. Expecting other teams not to pick on your weaknesses is completely unrealistic and getting upset about it is a waste of time. It happens all the time. Everywhere.

And as far as someone being in the wrong profession if they dont recruit the way YOU want them to, its all about the results. Guys like Kiffen are dirty as hell but they are effective and are obviously in the right profession cause they get paid top dollar. If Golden could simply badmouth FSU to a bunch of our recruits and get them to flip you guys would be ecstatic and wouldnt care how he did it.

You're right there are coaches out there like Kiffin that are dirty and will throw their own mother under a bus to sign a recruit. But there are also recruits out there that were raised of higher character than that, and will see right through the charade. Some will get annoyed with this tactic; some will get down right mad over it and write a coach off because it speaks to their overall character and moral fiber.

You are also wrong about me not knowing the recruiting process. I have been down that road before. As a high school recruit I saw many negative recruiting tactics. I can tell you first hand that they were an instant turn off and I immediately wrote that school off, even if the system and PT were the best fit. Before you ask, no they were not major D1 BCS schools, but the pitches and process are the same.

Lastly, no I would not be happy if Al Golden called Edwards, Fowler and Winston tonight and bad mouthed FSU and got them to flip on NSD. Yes they are great players and I would love to have them, but not at that cost. KIffin is of the most hated coaches outside of Southern California, and I would hate to lose the respect I have for Golden just for a few years with a few kids that may or may not pan out.
