I dont buy that Golden didnt know anything about Shapiro and his cronies before all this went down. If he didnt, then he needs to sue Miami for every last dime cause they have screwed him.

How could he knew anything he barely had his suit case unpacked when this supposed to of happened. Plus every body with ties( no pund intended) to the Shyte troll where gone already or left shortly there after he was hired. The ad that hired him left a couple weeks after he got started. I highly doubt golden had anything to do with this. Up to this point he has been fair and honest coach IMO.

I actually never bought that either. But these are different issues. This was self reported to the NCAA I am sure. I highly doubt that Golden(by all accounts clean and sharp) would let Allen stick around if he were known to be implicated in the Shapiro scandal. I dont think this article shows anything more than what we knew from before. Just a timeline. He didnt give any monetary gifts to players, he showed them around campus and made some phone calls. All minor violations in the NCAA eyes.

So you are saying he knowingly walked into this shit storm and then immediately started to make it worse? LOL Like another poster said. He used this to leverage more years and money on his initial contract.

  • GOLDEN RELEASES STATEMENT

Statement from head coach Al Golden
"I have been a college football coach for more than 18 years and I am proud of--and I stand by--my record of compliance over that span. As my colleagues and players on all of my teams can attest, I believe strongly in doing things the right way with the best of intentions. The inferences and suggestions in the Yahoo! Sports story that my conduct was anything but ethical are simply false. I, like all of us at UM, have cooperated fully with the joint NCAA-UM inquiry and will continue to do so, so that our program and our University can move forward.

Because the process is on-going, I am unable to address any specifics or answer questions on the matter."

    two things are possible

1: Golden is a complete lying SOB
    2: Golden is being honest

    believe whichever you want.

Truth, but in a way it can come off as saying I didn't do anything but it is possible someone on my staff might have... then again it can be interpreted in many ways...

Either way this is just another issue to paddle thru...

  • I remember hearing about Shapiro long before the Yahoo article was published. At the time, the story was about some rouge booster who was gonna write a tell all book detailing a buncha stuff (recruiting violations) that he was a part of. He was gonna write the book cause he felt he was jilted in some way.

I remember when the Yahoo story went up the very first thing I thought about was the story I had heard about the booster and his tell all book. This wasn't like some kinda top secret info either. It was rumor I had heard through some form of media, I forget which. Anyways, a lot of time passed after I had heard it and I guess it kinda faded away. Seemed like a buncha hot air but then bam, the Yahoo article came and like I said, after seeing the story about that booster the story I described earlier was the first thing that popped into my mind.

I guess the point is that when Golden said he knew nothing of the Shapiro allegations before the Yahoo story broke I thought that sounded strange because here I was just some regular fan and I explicitly remembered hearing about this guy (Shapiro as it turned out) long before the Yahoo article was posted.

Agreed, peeps need to calm down, relax and enjoy the weekend. Let the shit play out but like you said this is old news to UM and the NCAA and apparently Mr Stock. Lol

  • It's already rained two feet on this program, what's another couple of inches?

I interpret Golden's strongly worded statement as good news.

Listen, as people have noted, this is not news to anyone but us. The NCAA has known about these violations, and Golden, I'm sure, has had to answer for them privately already. The fact that the statement is so strongly worded suggests that Golden feels confident, at least in himself, and very probably in Michael Barrow, or I imagine he'd be gone.

And these recruiting violations, while certainly violations, are not major. They pale in comparison to what Shapiro threw at us. They are only rough in the context of an ongoing NCAA investigation into the allegedly egregious violations.

This sucks, and, if corroborated -- small parts of the report probably will be -- our overall penalty may experience a small boost as a result of these more current violations. But the medicine we'll be receiving was coming anyway -- these are merely sprinkles on our shit sundae.

And I know he's "just doing his job", but Charles Robinson can take a long walk off a short cliff. Charles Robinson: Smug, always just off the mark, horse-mouthed and red-headed. The worst.

Cant wait to hear people start blaming this "scandal" for at least a couple of losses this year. And lets jsut take our medicine instead of continuing to blame everyone under the sun. If its not true, we wont have to worry about it. Either way though, I think this amount of coverage will impact the NCAA ruling on the shapiro case. negative press, whether true or not, will still negatively effect us. its funny how the press essentially tells us "whats important enough to care about" by choosing what they cover. IF its on the front page of ESPN and Yahoo, thats the threshold for importance in most peoples minds, and if its on the ticker we have no hope...

i would be tripping out right now.

BUT AL Golden has come out and refuted those claims, staking his whole reputation (and possibly career).

Golden has called yahoo's bluff. i'm guessing and hoping yahoo will fold.

Honest question for you has Robinson ever written anything of this nature that did not turn out to be true? Also, didn't ITU very own Chris Stock allude to something on this nature 2 months ago on these very forums? To me, both Robinson and Stock have the credibility for me to believe what they report.

Yes, Marcus Robinson was declared ineligible and was part of the 72 players in the original Yahoo article. He was vindicated of any wrong doing by the NCAA.

What else would coach Golden say?

If he is truly innocent his lawyer should be at the courthouse on Monday morning filling a libel suit against Yahoo and Charles Robinson for libel. If he does not do that then I believe coach Golden knew something was going on.

he seems like a man of integrity BUT all he talked about was HIS conduct, not his staff's or someone else's. Also, is it hard to imagine he didnt know how a recruit got a ride somewhere, etc??? I doubt hes that much of a micromanager.
