Mike mayok is dogging miami guys.

  • He's on a mission dogging the guys who came out early like Marcus fortson,Brandon Washington, anr Olivier Vernon saying that Marcus was never healthy an Brandon should have come back an move inside an Tommy streeter needed another year, kinda hard not to agree but he's going at the u players hard.

  • I agree with everything he said. It's not dogging if its the true.

  • Molinda,

Yeah I agree they should have stayed but I really believe a lot of them came out due to financial reasons an were swayed by drew rosenhaus.

  • He also has Miller at #3 RB , with Trent Richardson at #1 and the guy from VT at #2 ????

I really don't know why these guys came out a year early, but they know how the draft works just like everyone else... So letting Drew sway them into a bad decisions says a lot about them as a person... I really believe each player will get their chance at the NFL, but one more year in college would've had them in the mix for next years draft class for sure!!!

Financial reasons is a B/S excuse. If they truly wanted it for financial reasons, they would have stayed another year and been rewarded with a lot more money after proving themselves. Seventh round money will not buy them that Ferrari they are eyeing. Had those guys stayed, I believe we would have been able to make a run this year with big games at home vs. FSU, VT, and road games against KSU and a young ND team. Instead, we are rebuilding with a very young team ourselves.

David Wilson is no joke either. At least he played through his junior season unlike Miller.

I don't blame this guy for ripping them some new a-holes. Frankly, I'm with him on this one.

    GoCanes

  • I dont disagree with what Mayock is saying because a lot of those guys should have come back to work on their game and would have improved their stock. However, it was their choice and they are gonna hear it from every so-called draft expert on why they should have stayed in school .

Mayock is being a little too harsh on the guys. Remember this, he went to Boston College (they hate us with a passion) and he's a color analyst for Notre Dame... so there ya have it

Sure he ain't lying about our guys, but i think this post is simply stating that Mayock is talking about the Miami guys way too much, say it once and be done with it!

  • The financial aspects should not be overlooked.
We all say they should have stayed and improved their stock, but what if they all got hurt and killed their draft stock?
The 5 early entries will probably all get drafted, and even if they sit on the bench for a year or two, they are still getting paid.
Let's not forget that the dream for every high school then college player is to play in the NFL.
I bet if you gave them 2 choices, one they can play 4 years in college and win 4 National Championships and never get to the NFL, or 2 they can play 3 years not win shit in college but play 5 years in the NFL, the choice they all would make would be obvious.

We are generally speaking about young men from underprivileged background, where a college degree and 50K/year is the dream in most of their communities. The idea of making a million dollars in a couple years in their 20's is inconceivable without getting real lucky or committing a crime, as it is to most Americans.

Even the league minimum for 3 years is over a million dollars, and having people I know who are in the NFL as the last man on the bench, coming from a no name college, being undrafted and having stuck in the league for 4-5 years and making 500-750K/year means they are set for life if they use that money wisely.

I would have loved for all 5 of these guys to stay at Miami for the next year or in Lamar's case the next 2 years, but it is their dream and it's coming true.
We also might have had 5 less guys in our recruiting class this past recruiting cycle.

Again, I can't blame these guys. If any of us, after 3 years of college without even graduating, were offered a position with a contract for 3 years making 350K/year with a 100K signing bonus with unbelievable perks we would all jump at it, I can't fault these guys
    for grabbing their dream.

Thank You, the voice of reason. Well said. I knew some of us are being selfish and wanted some of these guys to stay so we can field a good team next year but these kids did what they felt was right. So I will support them even though I would have liked to see them stay.

If the reason why these kids came out is money, then good for them. If I was in a finacial situation at 20 years old and could make 350,000 per doing something I love I would prob leave too. Good luck to these guys and I hope they can make some kind of positive impact in the NFL.

Crisis does not define character, it reveals it.

  • My point really fellow Canes, he's talking about it too much, I mean we all know if u finish 6-6 you should want to comeback an give a better effort an go out on top but whoever was in these guys ear really are not allowing them to build their body of work.

    signature image signature image

    Redzulu

  • Let's not forget where these kids came from. They now have a chance to help there family. What if they stayed and got hurt, what would they do then? At the end of they day, you have to do whats in the best interest of you and your family. Not what experts and fans think you should do.

  • Where are you getting your numbers on how much money a bench player makes? Are you including agent fees and taxes in that 3 year plan that's making them a million dollars? Last year Mark Ingram made 400 thousand dollars after taxes and agent fees.Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't he get drafted in the first round? These kids made a big mistake if they aren't drafted in the first 3 rounds. And usually bench players have a very short career and not much to show for there time in the NFL. There are many former cane players who had a short career in football and how well are they doing now? The 2001 football team sent many players to the league, ( Bret Romberg, Davenport, Sands, Mike Rumph,D Jones,Ken Dorsey,J Lewis, J Mc dougal, Williams,W Joseph) Go ask them how well off they are after a few years in the NFL. And these players didn't leave school early!! If everyone seems to think that they should have stayed in school, maybe there is more to it then just being shelfish. If this dosen't work out then what will they have left besides saying what if?

    "set for life??1?!

    you are crazy, there are two very important factors that you are overlooking here;

    1) the contracts are not guaranteed, at any point in time the team can cut you and the only money you are entitled to is the "signing bonus"
    2) 500-750k a year for a couple years is not enough money for you to be "set for life" as you put it. At 500k , you will be lucky to put 300k of it
in the bank. Taxes are a bitch at that level....

so the bottom line is you must try and get as much as you can in your signing bonus b/c that is the only amount that is guaranteed, the best way to do
that is to come out when your draft stock is the highest it could possibly be
