Miami Defensive Line Status

  • Appreciate info on your defensive line players. We've been discussing this on a GT board.

Heard that a player was suspended and that the Hurricanes have quite a few injuries on the defensive line although 1 player a defensive end I believe is supposed to return..

How does it actually look along the defense front? How many of the original starters will be in there Saturday? Depth?

Thanks for the info and good luck Saturday. Should be an interesting game Saturday, we aren't sure what we have this year despite the 6-1 record.

  • Yes, you are correct. Regis is suspended this game and we get Vernon back. Vernon is by far our best D-linemen but he will be extremely rusty. Our defensive front is terrible. No depth at all at DT. Our starting DT's this game will be a converted DE and a first year player who is extremely out of shape. Then following those guys will be all freshmen. If you guys get the FB going, then GT will run all over us. If the FB doesn't get things going, then I don't think GT can beat our LB's to the edge. JMO. The only way we win is if we jump out to a early lead.

    Goodluck!

  • Thanks for the feedback, gocanes.

All is not lost for your defensive front. If your defensive coordinator doesn't fall asleep while watching our game film against Virginia his eyes will light up like saucers when he sees how effective Virgina was by blitzing the A-gap. If you are able to do that as effective as Virginia you could have statues for defensive tackles.

Haven't seen you play much this year but I'm sure you have very athletic LBs as usual who will be stunting and jumping into the gaps. Be interesting to see if GT made adjustments from last week.

    Best Wishes!

I agree with go canes defense can lose us the game and offense can win it if they score early I watched the va & Gt game twice I noticed how virginia really attacked the ball carrier something I pray we can do. But like go canes said if we don't score early and cause a turnover on defense I don't see us winning

  • If your OC doesn't fall in love with the forward pass you should be able to run it right at us. Power football, nothing fancy. You saw what Virginia did and your offensive line is bigger and more talented and Lamar Miller is an outstanding back.

You shouldn't have to pass more than 10-12 times in the game.

Depend on which O-line shows up. Our O-line was awful in the run blocking phase against UNC. If they play like they are suppose to then I think Lamar has his biggest game of his career.

  • I am looking for a high scoring game. Our DL (especially at DT) is pathetic. Getting Vernon back at end is huge but its gonna be tough for him coming back to face the triple option right of the bat. I think both offenses will be able to get what they want.
