  • For all the dooms day predictors back in January, when it was known who would be leaving early, do you still feel this team will be lucky to win 6 games? It is clear by all reports and by the two scrimmages, that this team is better now then last year at this time. Yes we lost a few good men, but we have also gained a few, as well as gotten bigger and stronger this year. When you look at our schedule for next year, I see no reason why we shouldn't be 5-0 going into Chicago to play Notre Dame. In addition to being bigger and stronger, we will also have a second year under this coaching staff. On defense we will have 3 SR and a JR starting at DB, young but very talented LB's, and a damn good DL. On offense we will have a pretty good and vet OL, vets at RB, and pretty talented WR's. and how many teams around the country can say they have two QB's with about 20 starts combined coming back?

In summery, while I'm not predicting NC, I do see a team that you will be hard press to pick against this year. If you are a betting man, which game would you put your money on and say the Canes have no shoot at winning that game? For that matter, how many games do you see the Canes not being favorite in? Our strongest test are at home, so at worst I say we split those. I just feel this team will be a lot better then people thought back in January.

  • 7-5 and I'm sticking with it. Scrimmages don't mean crap. There were such great reports coming out of spring and fall camp last year and didn't mean anything for us.

They have to prove to me that this team has changed.

Well if u remember correctly everything got screwed up a week before the season throwing huge plumbers wrenches in every gear but RB basically... So yeah had we been full strength no suspensions a very different outcome to last years season.... This year I see the defense playing alot better carrying us through the first couple games while the Offense finds its identity and gets the kinks out..

Me personally I wouldn't say all the predictions last year were wrong. Who knew we would have the scandal we had last year, with most of our starters on defense being suspended for the first game of which we would have won otherwise. Last year was just a ruff season all the way around and the one thing we did find out about the 2008 class, is that they didn't have the heart to turn things around. A stop here or there, would have easily given us 9-10 wins last year.

  • 7-5 minimum, 9-3 maximum ...... young talent will win some and lose some..... ND, VT, FSU, UNC are 4 swing games all winnable and all 4 are loseable.....

I would say there are 2 other swing games with GT and UVA but I think UM wins those....

Max of 5 loses would be the 4 swing games and then a game unexpected like when FSU loses to Wake... that WTF loss

That's sort of what I was thinking. I just feel this schedule Is ripe for the picking this year. With Butch gone from UNC, I feel they're in for a rough few years and I think we've mastered that GT offense.

Yh we have figured out the GT offense and i think we will take care of UVA, When we played UVA last yr we could stop the run, thats the key to beating UVA. 8-4 at best and 6-6 at worst.

  • It depends how many games we play. If we only play 12 then I think a 9-win season is realistic. If we play 13-14 games, a 10-win season wouldn't be far-fetched.

  • To me it depends on the play of who ever the starting QB is, you just don't know what ur going get from this team. I predict 7-5... Prove it to me during the season screw a scrimmage.

  • 6-6 being realistic, nothing dooming about that; young team makes mistakes that's is a fact that you can clearly see all around the country and from past seasons.

Clemson, USC, Arkansas were very young in key positions and did well. 6-6 ain't happening. We will have a better d-line, better all around backers and a better secondary and most importantly depth in those positions. Our o needs to have Clive and Asante step up and it least two of the freshman Wr's play well. Hurns, Scott, PD, Crawford and Kidd (yes Kidd) are not like our past Wr's but they can get the job done. Our running game will be good/great with; James, Clements, Duke and the transfer.

For the people that keep saying 6-6, are you looking at the schedule and making a educated guess or just picking a safe number off the top of your head? I see the first 5 games of the year and there is no one there that will be favorite against us! Everyone keeps point to our question marks, but every team has question marks!

UNC has lost a bunch, including their head coach!
We have FSU, USF, UNC at home!
    Our defense will be better.
No scandal hitting us in the face going into the year! I just don't understand the pessimistic outlooks. Are people really that scorned?

How can you make an educated guess!? IF one looks at the schedule and team's strengths then you will see that although Miami's team is great, they just don't have enough experience to play against more experience teams. Look, I'll be the first one to admit I sure hope so that I am completely wrong, I would love to see the 'Canes go all out and surprise and perhaps shock the world but I'm just trying to stay level head here. Clemson, crumble at the very end, they were very lucky with gimmicky offense until they got figured out, West Virginia took them out to the back!, USC has all been in top regardless of who, they are in top 5 or top 10 in recruiting year in and year out, so they are always loaded with talent. Arkansas...hmm, I didn't know they were young.

FSU, loaded, ND loaded, UF loaded (post Myer), Texas every year loaded, T AM loaded, Tenn loaded, Georgia loaded...all have been/are young and didn't do what USC did during sanctions.

Have you looked at some of these other teams? They're no more experience then we are. No one is returning 22 of 22 starters from last year! Because we had so many injuries last year and supensions, we're returning a lot of players from last year that played more then they should have but it did give them valuable experience. We were playing with 250lbs DT's!!! Those kids are now a year older and around 300lbs this year and a lot stronger!

When you add up all those factors, you can therefore make an educated guess that we will be better then last year!

  • My question is how you guys know how Morris or Williams will perform this yr? How do u know mike James aint going run like he did last yr? Or how do u know that the o line is going to block better than last yr? We lost majority of our offense and ur wondering why some fans don't predict the same as u? That sh!t cray

Cream the spin can go both ways, some guys (myself and Tamp) like to be optimistic. We are not saying that we are NC material but we ain't rolling out 250 lbs lineman this year either. The key for us is our D, we need stops and take aways, if we can do that then we will help our o out a lot.

We don't!!! What you guys are looking for is perfection and no team has that! LSU made it to the NC last year and how good was their QB? How good was their offense? Everybody that we play next year will not be in the AP top 10! This is still Miami and we do have a lot of talent on this team and now that we have a coach and no scandal waiting on us, I see no reason to be pessimistic on this season.

  • Look all I'm saying is I'm being a realist, if things go as some of the optimistic posters say it will go then GREAT, I wouldn't want it any other way. But keep in mind, if this thing don't meet your expectations don't be angry at them or the coaches. Everything takes times and preparation and some times it takes more than one and half year to fix that issue.
