Jordan Sherit update

  • Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough defensive end Jordan Sherit admitted that Miami had fallen behind in his recruitment, but after a late push by the Hurricanes, the Canes right back in the picture.

"I made one comment that I haven't heard from them in a while," Sherit said. "The next thing I know I get messaged from everyone on coaching staff for a couple weeks now. Especially with the addition of Travis Johnson, a great friend of mine that is going there. It makes me think about them again. I'll try to get down there in August."

Sherit, who said Florida and Vanderbilt are recruiting him the hardest, is close to narrowing down his list of top schools, but he already knows several teams that will be on it.

"I think I'll have a top 10 in the next couple of days," he said. "I can't think of all of them off the top of my head but some schools I would put in there are Florida, Miami, Stanford, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. I definitely want to take a trip out to Stanford when they play Notre Dame."

The four-star athlete has visited Florida three times since the spring began. Sherit said Florida is the most organized school he has been to.

"Coach [Will] Muschamp and their whole staff, as far as being organized and knowing what they are doing, they are ahead of everybody else," he said. "Just the way they run their junior days. You can tell by their committed class, they are one of the top classes in the nation. It's because they are doing the right things coaching, and they just have a helluva staff. I expect big things from Florida whether I'm there or not."

Sherit is a good DE prospect i want him in this class but obviously the staff had other guys ahead of him. Miami will most likely only take 1 DE this year.

  • These kids need way too much attention these days. If you get a written offer, why do you need to be called every week by all the coaches? Especially if you aren't planning on attending that school. You already know that they want you. Thats why I tell my son, take the 5 free trips, then we will do an unofficial to the two schools you like the most, then you make a decision by the beginning of your senior year so we all can get great nights of sleep.

    Who is that 1 DE?

    samsneed74

  • That's just how kids are making there decisions these days. They want to feel loved and needed. So its usually the one who shows the most love win.

I say Tim Williams from La.

4 star recruit from a high school that's right on LSU's campus yet indicated in an interview on TOS that we were his top school. Seems to legitimately love the U...

No way we take only one DE.....that's the position where we are most thin, and development takes a while.

OK, so lets write Sherit off. Who in Dade county, Broward, or Tampa do we look at? The thing that worries me the most is that, there is not much talk of defensive players from this area(Miami). Is there no defensive talent outside of Mathew Thomas and Jamal Carter?

  • I saw him in some footage an he has quickness but he has to really hit the weights he was getting man handled an it will get worse in college, this is not the same type of player as Chick, Chick was much stronger an look at Chick now he realized after last year that he had to get bigger.

If we land Jordan he will have to redshirt his first year he's not ready yet, I believe that is why the Coaching staff are looking elsewhere, I wish we could have gotten Todd Bowers who verballed to Auburn but we have to at least bring in 2 DE's in this class.

  • @Samsneed I agree with you man. I like the formula you are implementing with your son. A lot of these recruits loves the attention however many of them fail to realize they won't get that same attention once they sign that LOI. They fail to realize the honeymoon is over and now they are the small fish in a big pond. That's why many recruits like Golden cause he's genuine. He'll keep it 100 i.e. Juwand Blue

Ok, let's put it in a different context. Let's say you're one of the best at what you do and 7 different corporations were bidding for your services and you had to sign an exclusivity contract with one of them. Wouldn't you take your time before making your decision? If one of the companies hadn't contacted you in a while wouldn't you think they were no longer interested in your services? Wouldn't the way they wine-and-dine you help to influence your decision?

It's no different than what banks try and do with future business leaders or what pharmaceutical companies try and do with doctors.

That's just a dumb statement. There are plenty of kids that come from 2 parent households whom "crave" this much attention and there are plenty of kids from single parent households that do not. Don't marginalize the complexity of this process through generalizations. That never works.

+1 my man. See what alot of people don't realize is, as a man you have to look these college coaches in the face when they come visit you at your home...and what kind of man are you(or parent) to tell another man(coach) your child is interested when they really aren't. We get letters, we get calls, we say who we like, we say....if this school doesn't offer...is your school willing to hold a scholarship just in case? If they say yes...fine, if not we simply keep it moving...quietly. Once he make his commitment thats it, thats the only HE SIGNS! I've told him, if you commit after the visits, after the calls, after the unofficals, then there is no mind changing. Some of these boys lack leadership. You can see it in their interviews. The kids with fathers at home know to keep their lips shut and stay away from reporters because their dad's say so. See Tracy Howard, Deon Bush,Tyriq McCord, Chick...etc. Their father's were right next to them when they announced and look at how those kids handled the recruiting process.

thats why i said, take the visits, talk to the coaches, do 2 unofficials then its a wrap. most people know what job they want 15 minutes of being at the location. most people know who to hire 15 minutes into conversation.

You clearly have some sort of intelligence and with this topic you are using way too much of it... and I QUOTE, "it MIGHT be a product of growing up in a SINGLE WOMAN household and not having a man around in their life." General assumptions are the basis for a hypothesis, which is the building block of all true or false statements. FYI general statements always work because they can be proven to be true or false, they provide a solution to a problem. Now my solution may not be what you wanted to read, but none the less it was MY SOLUTION, compounded with MY GENERAL ASSUMPTION. I speak as an only child, raised by a single woman, raising my son in a two parent household, so by my general assumption, boys who don't have a male figure in their life, crave attention from males as they get older..Your statement, sir, was the only dumb statement. If you didn't like what I said, prove it wrong or do like I do when I read stuff I don't agree with...move on!

as far as the defensive ends go on this lis, i have only heard of Bosa and he is on his way to Ohio. from all the reading that i have read, Al Golden likes to recruit defensive line players with height and weight...like 6'3 or higher...except for Earl Moore from last year. i think he wants a big team to not only contest with the acc but the sec and big 10 schools as well.

you are painfully right. but i trust the tie and one day soon we will get there. does anyone notice that Al is forfeiting speed for size in this 2013 class. his concentration on big TE's alone is a thing of beauty.
