Director in Charge of Compliance David Reed Leaving...

  • So our Associate AD In Charge of Compliance is leaving after 6 years to take the same position with the Kansas Jayhawks... More Housekeeping?? Thoughts??

  • Hammer is coming down and smart money is leaving town. Miami has become a shell of itself. No Stadium (especially nearby). No indoor practice facility. Little to no fan support outside the few thousand die-hards.

This program is not positioned, facilities wise, to compete with the new age in college athletics. No one is stepping to the plate to lead this school into a renaissance and DS can't seem to get out of the program's way.

All in all, Miami has become dead-weight. I pray a miracle happens, but looking at the signs, it doesn't seem likely. The economics and the structural shortcomings are not in Miami's favor. Not too mention upcoming NCAA violations....

*When Samford, UCF, and UTSA has better facilities than you....better yet, if you can imagine life being better with their facilities, you are headed in the wrong direction.*

  • Go jump off a bridge deep eyez.....who cares about facilities. When is the last time Tennessee,Georgia, Michigan, Notre dame, ucf, Kansas state, Stamford, played in or won a national title?? Kids want to win and go to the nfl not spend 24hrs or the weekends soaking up the facilities. Those are just things to show recruits but once they make a decision it's because of other factors.

A little negative eh? Let me retort with the positives:

    1. University located in the center of arguably the best talent in the country. Mom and dad can see you play without a violation!
    2. Program with a rich history who has alum with strong ties to the program. 5 championships in last 30 years.
    3. Will have new Schwartz athletic center.
    4. Top 50 university - yes this will not make sense, but less than one percent of athletes go pro and even less can live off their pro earnings.
    5. Small private institution with small classes and personalized tutors available. Education valued at 250k for 4 years.
    6. Located in Miami - a major urban center and a mile from great beaches. Awesome wheater year round.
    7. And you can ask: got five? And answer we do! To Florida, FSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas A&M, UCF, USF, LSU, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, boy am I getting tired typing.....

Man...we have nothing...sigh, sigh.....Are you kidding me! We sell ourselves! And for what it's worth, the U gets as much national coverage as anybody in the country even during a down year! We also play in a pro stadium!

Be proud! Be strong, we are the U and a proud family!

Don't get mad and angry at me....look at DS for your frustrations. This program has way too much tradition to be in the straits it's in. Yet, when you look in and outside of the program, no one being paid by the university, save for perhaps the coaches who desperately want to win big here, care about the athletic department in a very real and meaningful way.

There's a "meh" attitude that the stewards of the athletic department can't seem to shake.

We'll see, but if I had to put money down to see how the remainder of this decade would shake out for UM given the destabilizing nature of conference realignment, I'd put money that it would resemble the past 10 years (the heat of realignment).

Under close oberservation, Miami dominated due to the relative stability of the college football at that time, the growing diverse population of South Florida and unique interest in the sport in regionally. Schnelly coming aboard when he did was like a perfect storm, no pun intended.

But the rest of the world has caught up and have now changed the game. NCAA infractions and a series of bad coaching hires has killed any momentum that the program would like to build.

If you all can't see that, then I don't know what to say but to carry on with the fantasy that Miami doesn't have to change because there's nothing wrong. Period. You can keep up this attitude that "we could play in a parking lot and win national championships. Coaches don't carry about that stuff and neither do recruits. Hell, all that's wasteful spending any way because we're THE U!!!!"

Yet @UReady I can respect your points and only hope that DS is listening.

  • I actually agree with both UReady & DeepEyez, if that's possible. Until Shalala goes, our athletic department is in trouble. Thankfully Al Golden is working his magic with the football program. We have to start changing with the times though..

That's the only thing I do agree with... We still have all those things Abs mentioned without DS.
