Yesterday just was an embarrassing day for the ACC. FSU lost to UF, G Tech (which will represent the coastal) got murdered by UGA, Clemson lost to USC, and Wake Forest lost to Vandy. All SEC opponents with the most embarrassing losses being FSU and G Tech which will play for the ACCCG. Also, don't forget that NC State lost to a Tennessee team that was only 1-7 in SEC conference play. I think in order for us to compete with the SEC we must start facing them as OOC opponents. Not only will this help with eventually being able to play at the level they are playing on but also show recruits that the ACC is a competitive conference. Maybe even conference realignment may be needed such as replacing a much better team than Boston College or Duke, although I know that will never happen because of basketball. WHat are your thoughts
I said it all last week and yesterday did nothing to prove me wrong... The ACC is a dead end.
Scott the only fix to this is for ACC teams to start competing. All ACC teams should at least try to schedule two OOC opponents from BCS conferences like PAC12, BIG10, or BIGXII
Screw the ACC, its all about the U.
agolden has made it clear in radio interviews that miami will take the vatech path through the acc... mediocre non-conf competition and conf championship --->> bcs bowl. look at alabama for non-conf blueprint (3 awful opponents and 1 mediocre in michigan).
Doubt that happens.. SEC plays horrible OOC for the most part.
I use to get mad about that too but if I was an SEC coach I would too. I mean you play in the best conference in the NCAA. You need a break from playing a top 10 team week in and week out. Football is an emotional sport. One of the main reasons its only played once a week. Take the Alabama game for instance...right after that emotional LSU game. Not trying to make the SEC all world but I'm just giving credit where credit is due. We will be able to compete with them and the best after next year probably. Once we get our freshman becoming juniors. We will be crazy good once our talent becomes more developed and experienced. Although I'm expecting a pretty good year, next year. GO 'CANES!!
That argument is weak bc it assumes top to bottom the SEC is better when they have garbage teams too. For the most part we are a basketball conference wit great academics I think the academic standards are a little too high for student athletes and most of the better talent goes elsewhere
It's five o'clock somewhere!!!
When half the teams in the top 10 are from one conference and won 6 straight BCS National Championships...that's a pretty good argument IMO. And an indication that the top schools are beating up on some schools also. Plus 9 out of 14 are bowl eligible.
But I do agree that our strong points are basketball and academics
ACC sucks I thought it would be better with UM,VT, and BC joining but I personally think it went down even farther.I keep hoping teams will improve each year but I just keep getting let down were a disgrace.
Polk the ACC schools must bring in coaches that make their team competitive. Remember the ACC was never a dominant conference before we got there. FSU ran the conference for over a decade and hoped the additions of VT, UM, and BC would have made it more competitive but it was the opposite. We regressed as team and BC surely regressed as well. VT was the only addition that held up to competing. Within the next year or two we compete and make the conference relevant.
the problem is the pac 12 has neither the speed or the toughness for the sec other then oregon and stanford and we seen oregon get killed so would stanford big 10 has no speed, big 12 has no toughness or creativity for the sec, the acc has the speed not the stregnth up front except for fsu and they got smashed the problem is nobody tries to play completely like the sec and then when we play them nobody has a chance until then its gonna alway be the same
