Stephen Morris, QB, Miami Hurricanes
Is it possible for a player who passed for more than 3,000 yards and 20-plus touchdowns to fall into the breakout category? It's stretching the definition, for sure, but Morris' 3,345-yard, 21-TD season in 2012 was quiet, wasn't it?
I mentioned North Carolina earlier in the week as one of the nation's preeminent sleeper teams, but Miami -- also in UNC's division -- could be another. If the Hurricanes start turning heads and competing for a BCS spot, Morris could quickly become the face of the program's long-awaited resurrection (so long as the NCAA does not quash it, after all).
Miami returns its entire starting offense, including seven receivers who caught passes from Morris. It might come as a surprise to some that the Hurricanes were 16th in the country last season in yards per play (6.46).
Morris and Miami might not be so under the radar this season. Already this week, Brock Huard of Insider listed Morris as his eighth-rated QB prospect.
"No quarterback made more throws that forced me to rewind the tape ... than Morris," he wrote. "He has unique arm talent but must play every snap consistently."
Safe to Say This is Safety U Respect it
I think it was attributed to Jeff Fisch, more than anything, we'll see what Stacey Coley has for the young man.
It's all about the U!
Don't you mean James Coley .....
and Jedd Fisch.
Here is the formula for Morris. Consistency is the biggest. Then theres using your TE a lot. Finally check down to our rb and let them make a play. Just do what Kenny Dorsey did when he was here look at his film and u have a chance at the Heisman.
My only knock on Morris is, he always wants the home run or big play... Like gutz16 say, if he can understand that using his TEs and checking down to his backs is part of the game he will be just fine... He has to make defenses respect him and that's how he does it, use all of his weapons...
MIAMI returns the ENTIRE offense and mainly the ENTIRE defense, I'm sorry but Miami has to win 10 games!!! I really don't think Miami is under the radar, ppl just aren't sole on that defense but ppl definitely know about Morris and his offense!!!
I agree with a lot of what you said there.
I think the key for him is going to be taking the defense is giving him and not forcing the ball when it shouldn't be.
Like you said, he goes for the home run too often. I hope that he has been watching a lot of film and realizes that he should not have taken a lot of those shots.
It's All About the U
Only the greats play here
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
Morris has all the physical tools to dominate every game this upcoming season. His biggest obstacle is upstairs. His confidence needs to increase. I've seem him be either too high or low. If he truly dedicates himself to his craft this off season, then "sky is the limit" he could very well leave Miami as the most decorated QB as far as passing records go.
The WR also have to do their part. There's too much talent at this position for Miami s offense to struggle. Ken Dorsey wasn't always there. Kenny Kelley, Scott Covington, Frank Costa looked good often due to the wideouts. It's about time Miami's receivers started upholding Canes legacy standards. Teams need to start fearing the wideouts. Greentree, the sandpit, weight room, jugs everyday! Sometimes I'm baffled as to why a competitor doesn't want to be the best. I hope all the speeches this kids have sat through has rubbed off some.
I read where nfl scouts are saying he has the strongest arm of the qb coming out next year. Could go as high as the 2nd rd. u never know if he could wind up in the 1st rd. takes just 1 team to fall in love with him. Just ask Minn 2yrs ago and the Bills this year. Damn Morris is better than Ponder and Manuel!!!!
The only thing thats going against Morris is his Height because NFL teams no think hey can solve any prob but u cant makes someone grow
