I almost hate to start a whole new topic on this but I am overwhelmed by the complete lack of standards in the world today!!!! We are getting upset at a president of a college(you know the place where people go to learn and study in order to be successful on a career path) because her school(the U) requires just slightly over a C average!!! REALLY?????
Did we forget the U is the UNIVERSITY!!! we wonder why so many athletes was their sports career ends why the end up broke and miserable. There was just a report about 2 wr in Spurrier's first class at SC who have committed suicide in past couple years when football didn't go quite the way they expected. It was tragic that these young men put so much into being successful on the football field.
I have a 15 year old son who has lettered in 3 sports and is a sophomore! Btw he loves Miami!!! But I will never elevate a sport over intelligence and learning. It's the epidemic in this country when we teach that popularity, talent and money come before everything else. So those of you who are against standards I pray you don't have children so we don't have more young people lost and confused and destined at best to a life of mediocrity!!!

Let me also make a comment about my son. He lived with his mother last year who had no STANDARDS and requirements for him and his GPA last year a whooping 1.6!!!! He decides to move in with me with FULL UNDERSTANDING OF MY STANDARDS(yes young people actually like structure and good expectations) and almost half way through the year is carrying a 3.333 GPA. WE DO NOT HELP YOUNG PEOPLE BY LOWERING STANDARDS WE HURT THEM!!!
If that means we lose a recruit or two OR 10 but help the ones who do get it together well then I appreciate "THE U" even more!!! And hope my son gets an offer to play with an organization with standards!!!

To Bad you can't get into college with only a GPA!
The attitude of the Real U.
Nope you have to have test score too, interestingly the higher your GPA the lower your ACT/SAT score has to be since it's on a sliding scale!!!
You know the NY Yankees(who i hate) are a perfect example of standards!!! The have by far highest standards in MLB with no facial hair, short hair cut no tobacco and look at their success!!! And players will do anything to be on the team(just see Matt Damongo from long hair and beard to clean cut Mr America!!!
Hmmm so it's not the legacy of the organization or the great players who have come there before? Ok I see you know why everyone makes decisions I forgot you were so smart YOU MUST HAVE WENT TO THE U!!!!! lol thanks for downvote!!! You are funny dude
Btw how did the win all those championships before they paid players outrageous money??? Please enlighten wise one!!!!

If you're going to question someone's intelligence, at least use proper grammar. "MUST HAVE WENT TO THE U!!!!!". Really?
Now to your original argument, academic prowess does not necessarily mean a lack of character or effort from a prospective student athlete. Some people are naturally smarter, it's a fact of life. I will accept the fact that lots of athletes, and regular kids for that matter, slack in school, but you can't discount every potential recruit because of a standardized test score or GPA.
That being said, when it comes to our potential recruits/players, give me a few hard, beat you down, smack you in the face, bad ass m@therf@ckers, mixed in with the rest and I think we'll survive as a program. The world won't come to an end and we need some of that madness/rage/energy/bad intentions on the field. This is UM football after all, if you want all choir boys go follow another team.
You are going to try and correct my grammar and you misquote me!!!! REALLY???? I said "YOU MUST HAVE WENT TO THE U"!!! Not that this makes a $hit but I graduated college summa cum laude so you don't want to challenge my wit!!
Now to your argument about some are smarter then others, no doubt this is true but a C average dude???? Really all core classes combined you can't have a C average???? Then you don't belong at in institution for higher learning!!! Let's be real!!!
Now are you stereo typing by saying a bunch of choir boys!!! Lol I bring this up because you tried to use same point against me, by saying I attacked their character. Which for the record I never did and never would due to fact I don't know them personally. I know plenty of players that are bada$$ on the field but to use your term are "choir boys" off!! They are the definition of SWAG!!!! My point is you can't get up set at a president of an institution of higher learning because she adheres to ACADEMIC STANDARDS because a (now catch which one comes first) STUDENT-athlete doesn't meet that requirement. I think it sucks AJL didn't qualify, but HE DIDN'T QUALIFY!!!
And finally as far as rooting for another team if YOU don't like the standards of THIS TEAM you can go find another to root for!!! Might I suggest ND cause they lowered their standards to let more kids in!!!

You're right! Kids will live up or down to the standards set by the people (Parents, Teachers, and Coaches) in their life. The problem is, not everyone has that support system and many just fade away, when all they really needed was someone to care. I do feel colleges should have high standards, but I see nothing wrong with Colleges allowing for one or two kids to get in on a probationary bases. Give them a red shirt year to see if a more structurded setting can help more kids. Sort of like the prop 48.
