Under Shannon we were able to pull talented or serviceable offensive linemen but d-line was a different story.... Even AG is finding it difficult to find impact D-lineman to come to the U. The history of the U is stopping the run then killing the offense with pass rush after were up by 28 points I say that to say this what is the reason top talent does not consider coming to play in Miami at DT if anyone has any insight please share. We are good at all positions on D expect for DT. Is it attitude, grades, scheme, coaches, I can't seem to grasp the reason.
Breaking news....every college and NFL team is having a hard time finding stud defensive lineman. See the desperate reaches for DL the last 5 years of the draft.
Brick by Brick
"There's going to be a lot of people who didn't stand with us who are going to be remembered for not standing with us,"
Examples? I'm in agreement w tblack... I think there have been a lot of stud DT's over the past 5 years, but none of them were on our team... This year alone Shariff Floyd, Star, Sheldon Richardson, all studs! There are many more too and over the last few years there's been Suh, Dareus, Fairley, JJ Watt (3/4 DE 3 technique), Geno Atkins, just to name a few...
The only guy you listed who we might have had a shot at is Geno Atkins...and i'd add Louis Nix. Outside of Allen Bailey.. who was a stud DL under Shannon? Don't say Forston.
Defensive Tackles have a 37% hit rate in the first round of the NFL draft.
Defensive Tackles are the second worst position in the NFL draft first round. Many players end up getting dominated by superior NFL offensive lineman. Another reason DTs bust is a lot of them eat their way out of the league with poor work ethics. Teams taking a Defensive tackle in the NFL Draft watch out!
Defensive Ends have a 48% hit rate in the first round of the NFl draft.
In this data set defensive ends were classified as 3-4 ends, and 4-3 ends only. Outside linebackers in the 3-4 were counted as linebackers. The position of highest value on defense turned in pretty close to a 50/50 hit rate among first rounders of the NFL draft. There can be various reasons for this split. One is some defensive ends have a hard time transitioning from the 4-3 end to a 3-4 end scheme, likewise a player may be built to play as a 3-4 OLB but is forced to play the traditional 4-3 end. Also like other positions in college defensive ends may rely to much on their athleticism, and may not develop specific moves to rush the quarterback. In general many players will have what it takes to play in the NFL and some wont. Taking a Defensive End in the NFL Draft is well worth the risk.
CB's and LB's on the other hand hit at a 70% rate.

Everybody's gotta opinion on why our D- line is so bad it's frustrating watching the talent we have out there playing DT, hope Golden can find a solution
You guys don't really think DT is the only lacking position we have right?
CB - Zero depth 2 sophomores and a Juco starting.
S - Zero depth 2 sophomores probably starting
LB - Zero depth Possible that a freshman and sophomore will be starting
DE - Zero depth but promising with incoming players.
DT- Zero depth and the 2 starters probably don't start on most teams.
This is why the defense is awful!
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
We have decent depth at LB... 2 deep at every spot, plus grace and bond will be coming in this summer... That unit should be a strength this year... Ur right though our defense is not very good overall... We should see improvement but I'm not expecting a top 25 or even 40 defense...
where are you getting these stats from?
D'onofrio is just a pawn. This is Al Golden's team and Al's defense. Al's the clown. Dorito's just the floppy shoes.
I disagree with the sentiment that we don't have depth. Depth isn't our problem its talent level and development. Only position we are lacking at depth right now is RB and maybe Safety. Looking at the roster we have16 DL on scholarship, 9 DBs, 8LBs, 13 OL, 4 QBs, 5 TE's, 8 WRs and 4 RBs and this is without the players we have coming in the summer. Golden has done a great job at providing depth and symmetry for the roster. The problem is very few impact players amongst these players. As we improve our talent level these coming years you will see a difference.
Lulz I don't think having players that shouldn't even have D1 offers depth. Just because we have numbers at positions doesn't mean depth. Having depth means when a guy comes our or gets hurt the drop off isn't much.
Also: Let Morris get hurt and then see if you think we have depth at QB or let Duke get hurt. WR, TE and O-line we have depth at.
