Cane Hunt ’13: WDE | UPDATE
9/6/12: Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald yesterday reported, "Louisiana-based defensive end Tim Williams, rated as Rivals.com's No. 36 prospect in the country in the 2013 class, told rivals.com that UM "has a little bit of an edge" on other schools, but Alabama, LSU and FSU are very much in the mix."
Really can't envision why we have such a hard time recruiting DL, we have placed a lot of guys in the league.
Man if this kid comes through, it will def. show the Canes & AG can still pull top talent from outside out hot bed. That would be 3 big time prospects out of the Bayou which in the past-LSU has let very little of their states top talent get away. If this kid goes our way-that will be a huge pull & a statement pull.
CANE 4 LIFE & BEYOND !! I BLEED ORANGE & LIVE GREEN !!!!
9/6/12: As a follow-up to the Herald's article, TOS today reports that Miami has a slight edge in the recruitment of WDE Tim Williams.
"Just because of the way they've been communicating with me they have a little bit of an edge. I talk with the University of Miami the most, but it's hard to say I have a favorite because LSU is the home school and Alabama was actually the first school to recruit me," he said. "I just want to make the best decision that's right for me. I can say all those schools are my favorite. But I do talk to Miami the most and I enjoy talking to those guys over in South Beach.”
And he tells Noles247 he has no leaders... recruits these days I tell ya...
his hearts with miami, fsu is great at making dlineman i admit but if he were to go in florida i see him picking us first, alabama wants to run the south but don't need him they aren't his top option, and LSU wants him bad but if he doesn't want them the most then it says that he doesn't really wanna go there
10/4/12: Tyler Hann of Gigem247 wrote an article about A&M recruit ZaDarius Smith. Here's what he said.
"Texas A&M’s pursuit of mid-term junior college prospects is becoming more aggressive as the season goes on with new targets continuing to emerge each week. With the Aggies heading east this week to take on Ole Miss, Kevin Sumlin’s staff will use that opportunity to stop in at East Mississippi C.C. to see a trio of defensive targets which include 4-star defensive end Za'Darius Smith.
With defensive end being a priority spot to fill, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound edge rusher could be the answer for Terry Price’s unit.
Fresh off visits to West Virginia and Florida State, the No. 10 ranked junior college prospect has an idea what he’s looking for when choosing a school.
“Just being at that Florida State-Clemson game, it was exciting man. Seeing 85,000 people in the stands got me so hyped,” he said. “I want to play in that type of atmosphere. I actually wanted to be on that field too. Basically, all the schools that I’m interested in right now are Florida State, West Virginia, Mississippi State and Texas A&M.”
Smith is on pace to graduate in December and will have three years to play two. He’s looking for a school with a coaching staff that he can relate with and get coached up from."
Can the Canes get back in the game for Smith? More to come.
Cane Hunt ’13: WDE | UPDATE
10/8/12: Nate Adelson of Inside The U published a feature story today on WDE recruit Tim Williams. Williams has been closely watching the progress of the Canes this season. “They have a young team but that means they should be a force for years to come,” said Williams.
Family is very important to Tim. “Al Golden is a great coach who’s really there for his players. One guy went down and he was there hugging him on the field. That shows me I’m being recruited by a family and not just a program.”
Although Williams has been unable to visit Coral Gables yet, he remains serious about Miami. “I’m not making any decisions until I’ve seen Miami. They’re my top school right now and I want to keep building this bond I have with them. I don’t want that to slip through my grasp. I know I’m not waiting until signing day and I might not wait until the All-American games. I want to get it done right after I’m done with my officials.”
The Canes are still in the game with Tim Williams. There’s more to come in this interesting an exciting recruiting battle.
10/9/12: David Helman of espy.com reports...
"There won't be any uncertainty with U-High's biggest current prospect. Undecided ESPN 150 defensive end Tim Williams said he'll be on hand to see the Tigers and Gamecocks go at it. Williams has been no stranger to the LSU sideline this season, and that looks like it will continue this weekend.
Williams has long said he plans on making other visits before he makes a college decision, but those might wait until after the season. He had mentioned possibly taking a trip to see Miami host Florida State on Oct. 20, but that now appears to be off the table.
"I'll probably hold off and take those as official visits after the season is over," he said."
Frack!!!! Says one thing then says another!! Come on guy we need you here!!! Dang!!
Good job all the way down Len !!!!!!
the mroe games he goes to LSU makes me say he is more a lock to us with that team how they use there d ends, location, atmosphere, friends and family there and they cant be his favorites makes me say LSU just doesnt impress him
Cane Hunt ’13: WDE | UPDATE
10/17/12: WDE Za'Darius Smith, from Scooba (MS) Greenville junior college, will take an official visit to Florida State when they play Florida on November 24th.
ZaDarius visited (UV) FSU for their game against Clemson and has made an official visit to WVU. He also plans to take an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend. He says he has no leaders at this time, but plans to make his decision in early December.
Can the Canes enter the picture and get an official visit?
Smith is rated 89 by 247Sports Composite and ranked the #2 Juco WDE.
With him taking an OV to FSU for the UF game I think this bodes well for FSU... IMO Miss St leads followed by FSU

I don't understand why he isn't interested in the Canes. we are in dire need of D-Line.
Who knows honestly... I think the success of Tank is helping us out... being his success as a JUCO transfer... him being close to Miss St is helping them... but for the fact he UV visited FSU and now will take an OV is very good for my Noles
