This is not a Knock Coach D Thread! Say Yippy, Coach D Backers! LOL He is coming back, assumming Golden does, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt going forward to next season. Now, if we are giving up Half a Grand per game next year, I gotta get him! LOL Until then, Coach D is an Awes. Can't say it! Coach D is a Grea. Can't Say that either. Let me see! Coach D is a Loving Defensive Coordinator.
I want to explore Our Defense over the last 6 years. As you guys know, I stand firm that Good Coaching Makes the Difference. The last great DC we had was RS. Bill Young was okay!
The last year that RS served as DC: 2007: 252.3 ypg 33 Sacks! Team was 6 - 6
Let's compare Miami vs Temple Keep in Mind that Temple Played the Buffalos of the world until 2012!
2007: 345.9 ypg Temple: 363.4 ypg
2008: 315.8 ypg Temple: 388.0 ypg
2009: 321.3 ypg Temple: 335.7 ypg
2010: 317.2 ypg Temple: 317.7 ypg
2011: 359.9 ypg Temple: 315.5 ypg The AG Era begins
2012: 486.4 ypg Temple: 437.2 ypg Against a Big East schedule, not that Amish League
Can Coach D get us down to or below 320 ypg?
If we are in the high 300s/400s, HE HAS to be Replaced. Thoughts?

Scoring defense is all that matters. I dont care if we give up the most yards in the country(we might) as long as we keep it between the 20's. That is my realistic answer.
Envy the past, Fear the future
I hear you. It's hard, damn near impossible, to give up 500 yards per game and allow 15-20 points per game, though!
Are you and randy shannon gay lovers or something. It's hard fathom any other scenario where you could possibly think these stats are relevant.
Temples schedule...not buffalos.

Brick by Brick
"There's going to be a lot of people who didn't stand with us who are going to be remembered for not standing with us,"
Watching Goldens last press conference showed me that they knew this defense was going to be bad in the spring. They just weren't strong and experienced enough. Coach D rotated a ton of guys to get them experience for next year. That being said, the defense has to show major improvement next year. I'd say they need to be atleast top 50. If the defense can just be solid, then 10 wins isn't a crazy prediction to make at all. The offense is plenty good enough to win 10 games.
If the defense doesn't rank in top 50 next year, then I will begin to question Coach D.
"There's going to be a lot of people who didn't stand with us who are going to be remembered for not standing with us." - Al Golden
Holy F(>K! 5 is being objective...yup, it's 2012! Lol. I just want to see progression next year. Get us out of the cellar and into the conversation.
There you go again with that "Tough Typing." What's your problem? Were you not loved? Bad experience with someone that is Gay?
Grow up! You would not address me that way in person. I Guarantee That. So, Chill Out!
Enjoy your evening!
P.S. Reading Comprehension! Get some!
Below 320 yards per game?
I will agree with you if the D is not improved next season then Golden has to get rid of him, until then lets give him the benefit of the doubt, see how the freshmen progress into Spring ball and see what recruits we can bring in.
randy Shannon may not of been a good head coach but he was the defensive coordinator for a national championship team.and his players go on to produce in the nfl
I don't expect much from any True Freshmen next year! Frankly, we should not need any TF to play vital roles unless they are simply special. Even then it's not "need" - it's just that they deserve to play. I don't see any Special TF, that includes Thomas. If we properly develop what we have, we should be fine. Chick needs more coaching!
Some guys are better as coordinators. Plus, UM is not the place to cut your teeth at!
Lou Holtz said it best, "I sucked at my first Job (William and Mary). However, nobody gave a damn."
If Coach D happens not to work out, why not explore bringing back UM's best DC!
Hell, we brought back Kehoe, even after he sued them!
I don't care who the coaches are! They just better be Quality Coaches!
You don't think Thomas is special?
As long as he gains some weight (which he should) between now and next season, he will have a role on this defense IMO. I doubt he starts, but he will definitely be brought in for blitzing packages.
I have some faith in coach D. There is a reason the defense was worse than the year before and I believe that won't be much of an issue next year.
I'm not sure where 320 a game would put us, I would be happy with a top 50 D. That would show that we made huge strides, the kids get the concepts and most importantly, winning ball games. To be more explicit in my request; give me one or two defensively dominant games. Especially against teams like; VA, Duke and BC.
Go, I have to agree with 5 on this one. Last year I was reluctant to crown Duke, Tracey or any highly regarded freshman. He is not in Clowneys' category. I see him in the same strain as McCord, he will play but won't have a huge impact.
I can see that. That is not need, though! That's a good player getting some reps.
I think he can be pretty good with the proper development.
When I said that he is not special that just means he is not the next Ray Lewis or Marvin Jones. You know a beast from day 1.
Two different positions. Thomas will be a LB here. He won't be asked to do much his freshman year but rush the passer. That is what he does best right now. His athleticism is off the charts. Thomas and McCord will be on the field at the same time a lot on 3rd downs next year.
Rgr, I just don't have high expectations for freshman. I he plays well, I will be pleasantly surprised.
I'd say pass rushing is a pretty big need right now on this team. We sucked at rushing the passer this season. We hardly ever got off the field on 3rd down. So I would say he is a need.
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him starting by mid season. That would be pretty impressive seeing that our LB group will likely be the strength of the defense next year.
We should release some hungry DE next fall. Key Word: "Should." I personally hope that the starters are McCord and Hamilton.
When I say "Need" I don't mean we don't need him. It means he should not have to play because everyone else sucks. If he is better, he is better! That will mean we have some good players!
I expecting some serious development this off season. No exceptions!
If Coach D needs to Change some things to make us more successful, he better make the changes!
Coach D has no choice!!! Miami has the talent here and giving up them type of yards a game, teams will put up points... I worry more about the score at the end of the game but if teams are putting up those type of yards against our defense, we won't win to many games... Coach D is on the hot seat regardless!!! If Miami's defense doesn't improve from this year and look the same next year someone has to go... Don't get me wrong, Miami has a lot of youth coming back but HEY these guys will have the experience, they won't be new to it...
I think if our defense knocks that average by at least 75 to 100 yds less, it's a major improvement!!!
400 wont cut it!
Miami gave up 440 yds per game on the year and 30 points per game... So reducing the average 75-100 yds per game, won't just be 400 yds per game... Giving up 100 yds fewer would put our defense giving up 340 yds per game and 75 yds fewer would put them at 365 yds a game...
Yes, but the bigger question is can you get over your man crush of Coach D? lol jk. Coach D always on your mind!
Actually, we gave up 486.4 yards per game, Homey!
