There is no way we go to a 34 this year we don't have the size on the line yet. Especially at nose
will be interesting to see the measurables for dtackles and linebackers after spring. in 34 lbs need to be in the 230-240 range.
golden has talked openly over the last couple of yrs about a hybrid defense. no doubt we will start to see glimpses of hybrid defense in 2013, if measurables are on track...34 will be sprinkled in after mid-season...imo.
on tuesday, jcoley also mentioned in an interview that he wants a hybrid offense (pro and spread). ability to adjust to opponents week to week. look at qbs we are offering for 2014...have ability to run.
You play the defense your personnel is best suited for
We are about at the same size of stanford is right now.. I think you may want to look over the line up again, the personnel is there.

been there. done that. = 13 sacks in 12 games. our def ends in 2012 were well below avg. only bright spot mccord should have redshirted to gain weight and strength, but shannon had no idea how to manage a roster and golden is fixing it now, which means growing pains.
i trust the lbs blitzing, more than turning loose the de poodles to attack the qb...maybe we should start a new def scheme...1-6.
This is a new year with newer people, more mature people, etc. Speculation is all we can do when considering what a 3-4 would have done last year or even this year. I would like to see it in action as I have mentioned in previous posts particularly if you have a true NT/space eater. Maybe in the future.
U do realize McCord was a Golden recruit who Golden did not redshirt. Had nothing to do with Shannon as fans as scheme goes u guys who want a 3-4 or any other scheme from what we currently run play too much video game. U get players and coaches to suit ur scheme and we are a base 4-3 team and will be that. U can't just mix and match defenses in hopes of winning
Not true if you paid attention you would realize the staff is assembling guys to play multiple positions and the OLB's in a 3-4 dont have to be huge guys. Some schemes have those guys blitizing more some have them playing coverage with occasional blitzing. Playing a 3-4 creates mismatches because the line doesn't know who's rushing along with the 3 downline man. 3-4 is all about confusing the offense and the oline/qb. You dont need a 340 lb nose tackle to be successful. If all 3 DL create enough havoc and your OLB's can roam and get to the ball easily. Guys like Jarvis Jones is 240 but plays bigger because of the D he was in. In today's game the best defense is a multiple D that can match up and make teams react to what you want to impose on them. I think this season we will def soem 3-4 mixed with the 4-3 base D. It takes a few years to understand how to play in a 3-4 and this maybe a reason Coach D has struggled because most coaches who successfully run a 3-4 stick with a 3-4 and coaches are are successful in other schemes play to their strengths too. Maybe Coach D will finally be aggressive and use his playmakers to their strengths on D.
I'm pretty sure were talking BASE Defense... Yeah we can give some different looks but to run a base 3-4 u need more size... Everywhere... Period...
Ur stating the obvious regarding schemes. The staff hasn't assembled anybody that would show me a scheme change. Regarding Jarvis Jones Georgia had the 2 biggest dtackles in the country according to mark richt and he is only 1 person a really good D. 240lbs is ideal lb size for any scheme. So please get ur facts straight
For those arguing we don't have the personnel for the 3-4 take this into consideration. If you look at our recruiting its shifting more and more to a 3-4 personel. Look at some of the players we have brought in the past and present, Jalen Grimble 6'2 292, Jelani Hamilton 6-5 271both played DE in HS. Corey King 6'1 292 and Jacoby Briscoe 6'5 312 were both DE in a 3-4 defense in HS.Our recruit this year Kolumbo plays DT and DE and is very similar to Olsen Pierre 6'4 296 who did the same thing in HS. It can be argued but I believe Chickillo is very capable of playing DE in the 3-4 and I actually believe fits his skill set better. He is not a put your foot in the dirt run past you DE which you need in a typical 4-3 DE. Roster has him at 265 but reports are that he is in the 270s and I don't believe that's by accident. Luther Robinson is the only natural 3 technique we have on our roster and he would be perfect rushing the passer from the 3-4 DE position. The only natural 4-3 DE we have in my opinion are Tyriq McCord, Al Quadin Muhammed, Dwayne Hoilett and Ricardo Williams all of whom can play OLB. Enter Devante Bond, whos specialty is rushing the passer from a hybrid OLB/DE position and who would be our "BUCK" or pass rusher in the 3-4. Gabe Terry, Alex Figs are all very capable. Those saying we don't have a NT yes we do. Curtis Porter is very capable and is strong at the point of attack along with Earl Moore who is short compact and strong perfect for a NT. Give Me Perryman and Eddie Johnson as my two Mike backers and we would be have a great front 7. Jermaine Grace could have a role similar to CJ Mosley from Alabam coming in on 3rd down or spread teams to help on 3rd down. We do have the personnel to do this and fits our roster better than the 4-3 due to the type of players we have been recruiting.
The key to any 34 base defense is the NT..... and currently there isn't a NT on UM roster... guys are simply not big enough
Idiot I have my facts straight. Look at the roster and besides having the huge DT our D is leaning more towards a 3-4 ITS WHAT GOLDEN AND COACH D ARE FAMILIAR WITH! I swear some of you act like you're Mike Mayock on NFL Network sometimes. I listed Jarvis because he was said to be undersized. He was 220 and Grace is listed at 215 currently so son you do your homework. If you have size with the 3 DL it makes up for you not having a huge NT. Size isnt why the NT is so effective, it's strength and size. Some guys dont need to be as big. Stanford runs a 3-4 and their NT are both under 300 lbs and they're D is pretty legit. Texas A&M run a multiple D and they had only one DT over 300 lbs last year and that was in the SEC.

FSU trolls always on our board is the key to them feeling good about themselves
Idiot?? Bruh u might wanna kill the tough talk on the net. Grace is one player again clown and he has not even played a down for us. If a few recruits make u think we're switching u are the idiot. Our lbs can't cover and the dline get no push with 4 so how in the hell u expect us to get it done with undersized tackles in a new scheme? Let me guess u did it in NCAA 2012 now ur a expert. Our de's were 270 in our hay day so again get ur facts straight clown.
It's fools like you I wish I could meet to slap... you talking tough from the jump and then get upset when I prove a point? McCord, Bond, and many others are ideal OLBs for a 3-4 retard. And stop living in the past this is a new era with different schemes. We cant win by playing how we played in the 80s CLOWN. You were trying to say all these guys are too small.... hell who isnt coming out of HS that's why you pack on lbs and get stronger CLOWN. As I stated go look at Standford and Texas A&M's 3-4 2 deep depth chart. Everyone wont run the same type of 3-4 or 4-3 CLOWN it's called a hybrid. DONE
Ill give u my # I'm in Jacksonville fl I guarantee u wouldn't say that to my face and we are not Texas a&M nor Stanford so stop all the meaningless references. Size was never my argument it's the Miami will never run anything other than what got us to the top of the football world. If our offense was struggling we should switch to the spread by ur assessment clown. Bottom line we have a few situational pieces to run a package of the 3-4 but 4-3 is and will be the base u provide no facts but wanna talk tough please. Clowns like u have no understanding of the game but throw insults and talk hard and present ur opinion as fact
THANK YOU!!!! SOMEBODY ELSE WHO SEE WHAT I BEEN SEEING ALONG
