Like every first year coach, Al Golden wanted to establish a culture that fit the exemplified the type of team he is looking to coach. This offseason he did just that.
Awesome article.. Cant wait for the season!!
Good lord was Shannon a bad coach! I defended him up until the last few games of last season. By then it was apparent he had to go. But I was wrong. I mean, this is coaching 101 stuff
I am still amazed at how horrible RS was. On the other hand, these articles and quotes are getting me pumped for this season
I think as a group, we GOTTA stop blasting Randy Shannon. We all understand that he did not live up to Miami's standards that were laid in front of him by the former staffs. However, he did raise the team gpa and there was rarely a kid in trouble under his watch. I think Golden is going to do a great job of combining the two and produce a great on the field product with kids holding themselves accountable off the field. That being said, I do believe that there will be some slip ups with the law and grade wise because let's face it, kids are kids. They all saw the 30 for 30 documentary and there will be a couple that want to "bring back" that Miami attitude from the past and act and play the part. Will we win? I believe so. Will we do it like Stanford? Absolutely not, but we'll be in BCS/Title games on a consistent basis....well, at least more then since we joined the ACC.
I think Golden has made a profound impact on these players. He got pretty much everyone of the juniors to come back for their senior season. The article talks about the conditioning of the team as a whole which desperately needed to improve. Im glad the guys are having fun and being competitive again. The unity will go a long way, it ultimately will help decide whether you win a game or lose it. Ask any military personnel about unity and working together. The squad must function as a whole if they are to accomplish the mission. Same goes for the football team. Great article it got me pumped up. CANNOT WAIT for the season to begin. Go Canes!!
I'm glad to hear things are improving... supposedly. We've all heard the same dang thing every year though. I'll believe things are changing when we actually win something.
I agree with everyone opinions because we are so tired of losing n want to win badly
It's all about the U!
Maybe Im stating the obvious, but I think Golden is the type of coach that inspires players to follow him and they are willing to follow him because hell fight for them ( I know I was a believer after the first press conference), where RS tried to force guys to follow him by the threat of the doghouse. hopefully that culture change will help the team play more relaxed and a little looser, yet still disciplined because that will be engraved into their training as second nature. It seems like there was some paralysis by analysis because of the fear factor in previous years and hopefully that changes with this staff. Practice tomorrow fellas. Practice...not a game, not a game....practice. CANT WAIT!
great article.....coach G is the truth...now i just hope all that time and passion he's put into the team shows in the football field....1 more day boys and its on!....stay heatlhy CANES>.......
stay heatlhy CANES>.......
A loser says, "Go get 'em!" A winner says, "Let's go!"
Only the greats play here
I am a pumped! The statements from the players are profound and gives solid evidence that the product on the field is going to be drastically improved. These young men are ready to compete and respect their leader(s). That is a combination, which typically leads to success. Look out college football world...Here comes The Canes, AGAIN!-DH
Remember Randy Shannon was part of 3 National Championships at Miami and will always be part of the Cane Family and a True CANE! I agree with coachgomez in that publicly we dont attack our own...we may not be happy with the results of the last few years but no one is more disappointed than Shannon himself.
In the NFL you never hear Canes trash talk each other or criticize each other thats just a cardinal rule if some one crosses the line Ray Lewis will pull them aside and remind them. Golden will be great for Miami now and for a long time but Randy even though he did not get it done is still one of our own.
