  • Christian Morgan may be the most likely right now. Heuerman has us in his top 4 but I think we are running 3rd behind OSU and LSU.

  • 4/4/12: Canes receive surprise verbal from TE Standish Dobard (LA)..

Standish Dobard - Verbal Commitment to Miami
    6-5/241
    New Orleans, LA

Standish Dobard's verbal was a big surprise for Canes fans. He's considered the #1 prospect in LA. 247 has him rated at 89, the lowest of all rating pubs. He's big, fast and can catch the rock (see DL's article). Great addition to the team. Most people expect the Canes to take two TEs in this class. I feel they could take three if they are willing to sacrifice somewhere else. Who's going to grab those last spots? Heuerman? Smith? Henry? Morgan? Better grab the last seats.

  • Just dont understand why kids that are TE prospects want to go to LSU? They dont use them in their offense except to run block 90% of the time.

  • UPDATE!!!

4/10/12: Riverside, California TE Marcus Baugh (6-4/215) has given his verbal commitment to Ohio State. Will his verbal affect Mike Heuerman's decision and announcement on April 27th? More to come.

  • 4/13/12: Miami has "offered" California TE Beau Sandland. In 2011, Sandland played at Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, California. He currently has seven offers including UM, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Utah, Ole Miss, Indiana and Arizona. He's big and very quick. Since he's a post-grad, there is no rating on him.

  • 4/20/12: (4/20) #4 TE names LSU leader

TE DeSean Smith yesterday named LSU the leader in his recruiting. He plans to make his decision in January, so there is still time for other schools, including Alabama, Miami, FSU, Florida, Texas A&M, Cal and Notre Dame, to make their case. This is the second time that Smith has declared a leader. Previously, he names Alabama as his leader. I suspect there is more to come. Stay tuned.

  • 4/22/12: #9 TE impressed / UPDATE

The mad scramble for quality TEs continues. As reported, TE Mike Heuerman was quoted as saying how impressed he was with the environment at OSU. Specifically, he mentioned the small crowd at Miami's Spring Game and the 80K at OSU's Spring Game. It doesn't look good. He announces on the 27th.

  • 4/24/12: Nate Adelson reports that when Heuerman arrived back home from OSU, "reportedly informed Fisch that his planned visit wouldn't be necessary. The buzz is that this is a Notre Dame/Ohio State battle, with Miami and LSU running somewhere behind." I'd say our chances just dropped to 30%. Coach G will have to do some peddling to capture this local recruit. We need Kevin Olsen's verbal bad. Kudos to Nate for his report.

It has been OSU for awhile just like Olsen having us as his leader for awhile.

  • I just don't understand what he sees in Ohio State and ND. I guess Urban Meyer is selling these kids the dream (what that dream is, I don't know) and ND, "I don't know what Brian Kelly is selling" but unless Tony Rice is re-enrolling, then I don't see the attraction to Notre Dame anymore.

confused last 3 TE's have all been second round picks and are starting in the NFL. Tyler Eifert is the best TE in college this year and will likely be 1/2 round pick. That might have something to do with it.shrug Heard Miami was at his school today.

  • 4/27/12: TE Mike Heuerman finally announced his verbal commitment. He's headed to Notre Dame. "...I could have waited longer, but I have Notre Dame in my heart," Heuerman said. It's been evident for days that the Canes lost a good one. He's off our board.

  • 4/26: With Heuerman off the Board , let’s check the status on our other TE recuits.

Hunter Henry - #5 TE (94 rating) / ARK is in the lead, with UM not in his Top 6. Hunter has made three visits to ARK. I have reduced our chance of signing him to 40%. pray

Christian Morgan - #11 TE (90 rating) / Baylor is in lead followed by UM, ARK, CAL, Ole Miss, & Wash. I have reduced our chance of signing him to 50%. pray

Josh McNeil - #8 TE (92 rating) / Cal and Oregon are in lead. Our chances of signing him are 50%. pray

DeSean Smith - #4 TE (94 rating) / He recently named ALA his leader with LSU a close 2nd. Canes are in pack at second tier. I have lowered our chances here to 30%. fingergun

  • CANE HUNT ’13: TE / Mid-Year Update / May 29

Miami currently has five scholarship TEs ( Dyron Dye, Cory White, Clive Walford, Assante Cleveland, David Perry) on the roster with the recent departure of Billy Sanders. Four of the five TEs are juniors with one sophomore. We did not have a TE in the latest recruiting class. Standish Dobard (6-5/241) has committed in this class, filling a need for a big physical TE. Look for us to bring in at least one more TE, maybe two in this class. At mid-year, here’s our revised Cane Hunt '13 TE BOARD (above).

Can Miami take that many with limited spots, thought UM was in the same situation as FSU last year, low number of spots....

Yh but T.E is our biggest need because that guys that we have now aren't good enough so we need to take 2 solid T.E's this year.
