4/24/12: OL seem to be dropping like flies in the past two weeks. It apears OT/OG are positions of focus right now in CFB recruiting. I'm having a hard time sorting out our current targets. Can anybody help?

It depends how many they want. As far as I understand you want 15 OL's. Right now we have 13 and two will be gone by 2013. I can't imagine us going for 4 OL's this cycle but you never know.

5/23/12: As I updated my board spreadsheet, I noticed that the Canes have made quite a few offers to WR prospects. We thought they would only take one or two WR in this class. Angelo Jean-Louis will be one of them. They still have 14 offers out on the table. The coaching staff must know something about the status of the prospects that we don't know. Any other thoughts?

4/27/12: I just noticed that of our three kickers, two are seniors, Wieclaw and Botts. That leaves only Goudis after this year. Should we not consider adding at least one kicker in this recruiting class?
Just an observation and thought.

With the class size being small this year, we will probably take a kicker only if we have a left over spot. I suspect we will wait till next year. We should be able to pull a HS kicker or someone out of JUCO to fill the void.

Think we have Ben Hoppfinger or whatever his name is as well. Might not be scholarship kid right now, but I believe he is at UM as well. Might not be huge need.

5/29/12:
247Sports just released their latest 5 Star additions. In the article, there was this mention.
"There continues to be balance in the big three states- Florida and Texas check in with 32 selections each in the Top247, California has 31. Georgia (25), Ohio (15), Virginia (12), Louisiana (10), North Carolina (10) and New Jersey (10) all are in double digits."
Notice anything? These are the exact states that our coaches have been hunting in during this recruiting season. Coincidence? I think not.

5/29/12:
Over the Memorial Day Weekend, LSU received a verbal commitment from tight end Logan Stokes. At 6-4. 240, Stokes is projected to give the Tigers the big vertical threat they have been missing for years.
Does this verbal open the doors with DeSean Smith for the Canes?
Also, Arshad Jackson (Lovejoy, Ga.), a 6-6 / 235 tight end, has committed to play for Auburn. Again, does this help or help our TE recruiting?

not one bit Smith is close to commiting to LSU even tho he grew up a UM fan his mom wants him home. I still think McNeil will give UM a real shot...

Random thought...
Have "U" noticed that the Canes staff seems to be recruiting players that could play multiple positions? Like Artie Burns, a CB that could easily grow into a safety. Or Deon Bush, another big CB that could grow into a safety. Or Travis Johnson, a big WR that could grow into a TE.
There seems to be a pattern here.
Just a thought and observation....

6/10/12: As we approach the midway point in the recruiting season, I've wondered what our "positions of need" are for this year. I hear that phrase a lot on this board, but I really don't know which positions, in ranked order, we have the most need. Can anyone share their thoughts on this subject?

A random thought...
First, a shout out to OG Cane and canefan.
Here is my ranked order of need, although I can't say that I'm speaking with enough knowledge.
1. Safety (both)
2. OL (all)
3. TE
4. DT
5. DE (both)
6. RB (depth)
Please feel free to disagree. Like I said, my thoughts here are not very substantiated.

travis johnson i got a feeling he will be in this class as a Flex guy WR/TE like Aaaron Hernadez was at UF.

Too much fascination and too much obsession, too hung up on TEs.
I would rather play 3 or 4 WRs ... causing mismatch WR on LB ...
