Andrew Luck VS. Matt Barkley

  • So Ive been thinking about this for awhile after seeing both guys play a few times this year, and I dont necessarily agree that Luck is far and away the best QB in college or that its a no-brainer that the colts should draft Luck #1 next April. I know Barkley is strictly a pocket passer and Luck has more mobility, but when I watch BArkley throw the ball it looks effortless and Ive seen him throw some of the best passes Ive seen all year. I think Luck is a great player but when I watch him, it looks less natural and I dont see him throwing the long ball as well as BArkley. now I know Im splitting hairs between these two but I think the only thing Luck has on BArkley is mobility, and I think Barkley is more accurate downfield...other than that it seems like a toss-up. I think its a much harder decision than most people think...and this is just my opinion because I know I wouldnt want to have to choose between them with millions on the line, but I think I would choose BArkley because his play has stood out more to me than Luck's this season. anyone else have thought?

  • I agree that they aren't separated by much. BUT Barkley has better athletes around him IMO. He also has WAY better WRs. JMO.

  • I think the Dolphins should pursue Matt, since they already won’t be getting Luck, he is going to the colts for sure.

  • I think it's Luck and it's not even close. Flip flop teams. Luck can make throws Barkley couldn't make in his dreams. Try rolling to his left and throwing off the wrong foot on a 20 yard comeback to the sideline.

    Tom Brady couldn't make that throw.

  • Luck is the truth Like coach said his cross body throws are very accurate and when he's on the run he's not scare to lower his helmet and take one for the team. But Matt in his own way is the truth too as a pocket passer but he has some studs in woods and lee that luck didn't have. So I'll go luck but not by much barkley would fit with the dolphins if they sit him for a year to learn the system.

  • Andrew Luck has the best footwork for a QB since Dan Marino. He's the best QB prospect since John Elway. His upside is from here to the moon!
    Don't get me wrong, I will throw a party if the Dolphins get Barkley. The real decision is who do you take Barkley or Landry? A few teams may have to make this decision. I hope the Dolphins are on the clock! What do you guys think, Barkley or Landry??

  • Don't fall asleep on Griffen from Baylor that kid has all the tools and he's completion average is better than both Barkley and Luck he has great pocket awareness a gun throws on the run and can flat out run... Only concern there would be he's height they say he might be 6'1..
    Hell I say who cares Brees isn't much taller...

  • Hell no please stay away from Landry Jones !!!! I want Luck but the Dolphins couldn’t suck for the sake of the team's long-term pleasure. No patience on their part, just instant gratification, plus Sparano wants to stay as the head Coach so this is why they going to keep winning games. i think they’ll win two more game to end the season. Vikings will have the second pick, third pick will be Jacksonville Jaguars will be third and Miami will be fourth. So might just end-up with Landry Jones. I see the Colts picking Luck, Vikings will pick a LT, I really don’t think the Vikings go after a QB and theres that possibility that they trade their spot to the Chicago Bear. The Jaguars will pick Matt, although they picked Gilbert last draft I seem them doing a Carolina move and pick Matt. After them, is the Dolphins and that leaves two quality QB’s on the table; Kellen Moore and Landry Jones.

    You could be right, but Carolina use a 2nd rounder to draft Jimmy Clausen. I don't see the Jags going back to back on QB's in the first round. I agree with you that the Dolphins will win 2 more games this season. I have the Dolphins picking 5th or 6th in the draft. Barkley will be gone, so they will have to decide between Griffin or Jones. I'll be scouting Griffin today vs Texas. Lol

  • I'm a phins fan and I'm planning on checking out the Baylor vs Texas game this afternoon on ABC (3:30). I've read that Robert Griffen III is really good but I haven't seen him play this year. I also question his listed height. If he is a legit 6-2 he becomes extremely interesting to me if both Luck and Barkley are gone (or even a trade of Barkley for Griffen + picks). I question Landry Jones's intangibles...

  • Tonight's game will say plenty about Landry Jones...I would not mind Landry Jones in a Dolphins uniform. He's got a ton of upside.

  • Barkley reminds me of Jimmy Clausen for some reason. I'm not over impressed by him.

  • It's a tough call between the two. Barkley does scare me a little of Clausen and that is why I would take Luck. I really like both though. They both understand down and distance, when to take a chance with the ball, and when they need to make a play. Both can and feel confident in driving the ball down field something you have to do in the NFL.

    After looking at our QB's over the past years you really do gain appreciation for college pro style guys that play great.

  • If I am ranking QBs it goes in this order...

    1. Luck
    2. Barkley
    3. Jones
    4. Foles
    5. Weeden
    6. Griffin
    7. Moore
    8. Keenum

    I do not see Robert Griffin translating to the pro game. He is a one read and tuck guy. Is he awesome, absolutely. Is he first rounder, maybe to some. I will eat crow if I am wrong, but I think if he goes top 20 a team will be picking his replacement sooner rather than later.

    He is fun to watch though.

    What do you think so far? RG3 is playing fantastic, I especially loved the wood he layed on that LB trying to tackle his RB. Kid can play but will have to be a WR/QB Wildcat package in my opinion. Weeden sounds good as QB, the downside to him is his age and the fact that he is not a 1 round QB, perhaps a 3rd round but more than likely a 4 rounder. All I know is if for some miracle ( stupid choice on the colts or any team before the Dolphins) pass up on either Matt or Luck, I'm going to run around my street block screaming at the top of my lungs !

  • Im very interested to how it all works out and how they play in the pros because I can see it going either way. there is jsut something about Luck's game that I cant see him playing like that in the NFL. I jsut dont see him being able to stand in the pocket and carve up a defense like you have to do in the NFL. like I said I might be completely wrong but well see.

    I was really impressed with RG3, but he would still be a reach with the 5th or 6th pick of the draft.
    Keep an eye on Landry Jones tonight, I think he will change your mind! He can make NFL throws as well as any college QB IMO.
