ARE WE REALLY THIS BAD ????

  • I came across this story and was pretty shocked. I know I have been critical of our chances of a decent record this year, but I didnt think we were this bad. will we really be lucky to be .500? It suprised me mostly because it was actually a website dedicated to Miami, and usually they spin things to the positive side.

********* recently took in one of Miami's spring scrimmages and had this to say about the 'Canes 2012 prospects.

"If they go 6-6, based on what I've seen, Al Golden should be signed to a lifetime contract. I'm absolutely serious. If they go 6-6 with the team that they have, give him a lifetime contract. If he can take this team to be 6-6 or better, give him whatever he wants, because the talent just isn't there."

  • I saw that. No need to freak out. Like McSt[]__[]dly said, the talent will come in with the rest of the 2012 class.

  • He took all that in during two scrimmages with alot of the 2012 prospects not even there yet huh??? Why would you put stock into his comments when clearly he's trolling his own website.

Just checked...only 10 of 33 recruits are actually in spring practice. Terrible reporting.

so everyone's optimistic predictions for a good year are based on true freshman that will be arriving in the Fall?? I would say thats a huge red flag in itself. Youre depending on true freshmen to put us over the top, and they are the bulk of our talent? OK.

  • Guys to be fair and honest I am having a hard time finding 7 wins on this schedule. Not saying we wont get 7 because anything is possible, and our freshmen player makers are not campus. But if we can find a way to win 7-8 games I think we should sign Golden to another extension.

Things are depending upon the whole team, not just a spring squad missing starters like Morris, Hurns, Feliciano and others, as well as a quarter of the team which will be here when the fall practice starts.
Every team in the country depends upon incoming freshmen to provide depth and the occasional starter.
When more than a quarter of your scholarship players are not available, when you are not hitting every play in the playbook because you have only 3 wr's and a converted safety turned running back then turned wr catching passes, when 3 of your key offensive 1st teamers are sitting out, then your team is going to look
    pretty average.

Remember guys, this is only spring practice. Does any team look polished during spring practice?
Every team in the country including the two NC game teams last year are working on conditioning and trying to figure out who goes where and who is on their preliminary 2 deep roster.
The season is a long ways off, and for us it just means months and months of strength and conditioning training, and learning.

no they dont. most red-shirt players because they already have the depth. we, on the other hand, are counting on all these freshmen to hopefully start because we currently look that bad. and most schools also bring in an average of 25 guys for each class, so its not like were special in that regard. and the fact that we "have only 3 wr's and a converted safety turned running back then turned wr catching passes" is our problem. It doesnt mean that we are allowed to look bad, it means that we dont have the tools right now. we have to play with what we have, the rest of the country isnt going to handicap us or our opponents so that the playing field is more even. this baffles me...you are now coming up with reasons as to why we only appear bad, but us not being that good isnt an option? we only appeared bad last year because of the scandal, etc and we only appeared bad in 2010 because of whipple, and weve only appeared to be bad since 2005, but its not because we actually were, right?. Everything I see with my own eyes must be my imagination because theres no way weve basically been a 7 win team for the past 6 years...no that would be crazy talk.

    Miami_Smoke7501

  • I agree that 6-6 is pretty bleak, but even Golden in the recent interview with ESPN said that you can't just skip from bringing in a lot of youth directly to winning championships. Caneinsider definitely is too pessimistic here, but the fact is that all those people you are talking about, the incoming class full of talent, is not yet here or developing in the spring and will not be big and strong enough to win a title. The future is very very bright, but even Golden is only saying that the team is developing well, not that it's developed.

Not "everyone's" optimistic predictions are based in guys arriving in the fall, I simply said the talent level will go up with the true freshman arriving in the fall. I feel 6-6 isn't a reach of a prediction..it would be great to win more games that but I wouldn't be shocked and call for Goldens head if they went 6-6

Actually they do. Look at the 2 deep rosters of every top 25 team and you will see sprinkled in there freshmen.
A lot of them are guys we wanted.
Look at FSU last year. Rashad Greene and Freeman, both freshman starters.
One reporter says our offense looked bad, but does that mean our season's in the tank?
Of course not. It could also mean our defense is really coming on.
The rest of college football is just like us right now, trying to figure out what the pieces are.
I don't think we look bad, I think we actually look pretty good.
Every article I see about us details how our guys are all stronger and bigger, and not "my bench went up 5 pounds stronger," but like Grimble his squat went up a hundred pounds and he put on 15 pounds, and guys like Chick who worked his ass off and put on a lot of good weight.
Last year our record showed we were average, but we were not average talent wise, average to below in discipline and football IQ.
How many times did we see Jacory get to the line with less than 10 seconds on the clock. Hard to judge defenses, make audibles when you have no time on the clock. Plus it lets the defense fire off when the clock hits 1. It's not like they have to worry about going offsides.
We lost 6 games last year because we were fundamentally average. 4 shots to get a game winning td, our safeties nowhere to be seen on a long VT qb td up the middle to lose, Benjamin making one of the stupidest plays I've ever seen on special teams against FSU, Walford dropping a gamewinning td that hit him in the gut in the endzone.
We didn't look bad last year. We actually looked pretty good and 6 losses hung on a handful of plays.

Now because our defense dominated our offense we look terrible?
The previous scrimmage everyone was saying how James looks great, and how Scott and Dorsett are going to dominate, how our O-line is going to be great and how Williams with his arm strength and accuracy is really going to star.
    Now they are all shit?

Sorry, but I think people blow this out of perspective.

We are not polished right now because it's Spring.
What we should be emphasizing is that everybody is bigger, stronger, smarter and better than last year and will only get better in the many MONTHS before real practice starts. That's right MONTHS!

I'm pretty sure that in the next quarter of a year before Fall practice starts our guys are not going to be sitting around South Beach for 90 days sipping lattes and getting fat 24/7.

They are going to be preparing for the real battle of Fall practice when jobs are decided.

  • Teams like Iowa and Norhern Illinois win 8 games or more almost every year, so I know we can. I don't want to talk about talent because this years draft, combined with last years has about 18 Miami players selected. We are in the "process" of playing with a team first mentality and we are heading in the right direction. I believe this group of incoming freshman will lead us back to elite status.

  • Laugh if U want but I see 9-3 or maybe even 10-2

    POLKCANE

  • Depending on true freshman is the reality of the situation.....reserving your judgment of the ENTIRE TEAM and it's capabilities till you've actually seen them in a miami uniform is just responsible journalism. All i'm saying.

It's been like what ...11 practices so far this year? and this guy is making predictions...wtf.

  • I am a fan and I believe with what we have coming back this year we will be 10x better than last year I am gambling that the freshman we will need to play this year will be able to contribute right away. With the experience we gained last year and the depth we added on both sides of the ball I just can't see another season like we just had.

Iowa would thump us. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. Grown men out there.

Northern Illinois is a decent team... If they had to play an ACC schedule plus ND, USF & K-State OOC, they wouldn't win 8 games. MAYBE 5-6. Neither really apply to us though.

  • I am still trying to understand the concept of freshman making such an impact and drastically improving a team in year one...

Freeman and Greene earned those spots and playing time. That is 2 out of that class... others were forced to play, not what you want but it happens.... if UM wins 9 games call it a GREAT season.... however be patient Ans understand that 9 wins is a lot to ask for... Hell 9 wins for FSU is a lot to ask for giving the poor performance of the oline last year...

  • How about instead of trying to predict the record, we just show up and support the team! Every year its the samething and its fun to try and do, but realistically lets just support this team and watch them grow!

They will grow and will gain great experience.... I am looking at them and dreading the next few seasons... as long as we get back to the old rival minus the wide right and left then I an cool with it....
