DE Jones Another UM Target at Stephenson

Defensive end Jarontay Jones from Stephenson High in Stone Mountain, Georgia , was nearly unblockable last year, making 88 tackles and 16 sacks.

  • Early playing time? With our depth chart? Damn, that sucks.

    scott_chritton

  • I'm just hoping we get those two DTs in the next class...our DEs will be set for a while and will be a low priority n next years class

    DARRIOND

  • Every off season is the dawn of another great Miami caliber team is kind of how Al g is coming. As long as the recruits understand that's how he does business and the wins keep coming I see no reason a guy like this doesn't choose Coral Gables. Whats the story of db on our current roster? Dyron Dye?

    TrueUCannon21

  • Plus if Coach D wants to be so interchangeable and such... flexing 3 4's and what have you's hes going to take as many dominant pass rushers as he can.

  • Nate, do you know who is in charge of recruiting GA?

They produce a lot of talent every year. We should have one or two coaches focused on the top players in GA.

Also, Golden mentioned that all 9 coaches are going to be assigned to certain areas in FL. Does ITU have any details as to how Golden is breaking down these recruiting areas?

I would love to see Golden and Carroll (probably our two strongest recruiters) be in charge of Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach. They would be able to lock that down.

  • Who says we are set at DE? You can never have too many. Look at how the other teams are loading up at DE. We got Vernon and Dye in '09. Only Perry in 2010 and only Chickillo and Pierre as true DEs last year. Grimble will probably play DT and Ricardo is going to be used as a stand up rush OLB. That is only 4 DEs in 3 classes. Ojomo, Robinson and Smith are gone after this year. I think we need to try to get at least 3 in this class as well as 2-3 DTs.

  • With Taylor Gadbois and Tyrone Cornileus from Ga, this will help alot. Its one word that I will start using with this staff "Attack". When Jarontay Jones gets on campus for a vist, Gadbois and Cornileus should be his host. Again GA is sleeping on the job by not offering one of there own from there back yard. We just stole Gadbois from them, which they offered him late after we got him on a visit. Now with this sentence below, if we get two of these 3 guys, we might have a pipeline going on here.

"That’s where Jones’ situation gets really unique as he’s the third Stephenson Jaguar defensive lineman to get a Miami offer. The Canes are also involved with defensive tackles JaFar Mann and Carlos Hood.

Ga Bulldogs better be lucky we can't send a Private Miami Plane or a Greyhound Bus out to pick this guy up for Jr. day tomorrow.

Those are some good numbers he put up.

as good as georgia may be, we need to shut down south FLA first. basically everyone from STA, Northwestern, central, etc, etc, should be going to the U. I would focus on the local area first and then certain outer state hot spots. georgia losing their backyard isn't as big of a problem as us losing that QB from STA, the corner from STA last year who went to FSU, etc.

Are you serious. You just did not say sit on our butts while we still focusing on our area. Man did you see his offer list and his stats. We have to attack all recruits by any means necessary. We have to multi-task like the Prez of the United States. AG has a plan. If we have to send the water boy out to talk to him while we recruit in Miami, I am for it. I feel and most of the U Nation feels we don't want to wait around like the last coaching staff. Talent like this you just can't wait until May or Nov to start talking to and most important building a relationship with. Even tho Bama, LSU, and Ga have not offered, they are coming. Did you see any of AG press Coferences. I will post them for you so you can take a look at:

I know McGriff used to be the main guy in Georgia obviously until he got fired. Lately the name I've heard most from Georgia recruits is Barrow. I'm not sure if that's a temporary thing since they haven't decided who will take what areas yet or if it's a long term thing. As far as the 9 coaches breaking down Florida, I haven't heard anything about that yet but Chris/David/Rudy might know something.

Yeah I believe it was in one of Press Conference. He said under Shannon there were only 4 coaches assigned to Florida but he will have all 9 working the state.

Right I meant I didn't know what the breakdown was or who was assigned to what area specifically.

i didn't say to sit on our butts. if we can be at all 50 states and 300+ countries, that would be awesome. but we have to pick our battles accordingly. like war, retreating isn't always bad but spreading the front lines too thin is. another advantage with local recruits/players: more fan support/merchandise. after all, football is a business.

however, the real good ones, those you obviously have to jump on.

  • I think building relationships is extremely important, but i agree with joven cane and that we should lock down dade and broward first and worry about the rest later. If someone told me that you can have every single recruit from dade and broward, but no other place in the country, I would say done deal. Central itself had almost an entire d 1 squad this year! Let's bring back the state of miami and lock it down from orlando south! quite an exaggeration on my part with dade and broward only, but you get the point.
