Scheme Important To JUCO DE Bond

Devante Bond

JUCO DE Devante Bond is set to take his official visit to Miami this weekend. One question Bond wants to find out during his trip is how will he be used in UM's scheme?

David Lake
    • I tell ya David-I see a patter going on now & I like it. I really don't believe AG is a 100% JUCO guy but, he is smart too to see we need immediate help at these pos.s to have the season that will be expected next year. Our "O" can be as potent as any in the Nation but for us to get to double digit wins again, we absolutely have to have that immediate help with exp. on the DL. I believe AG is going all out on the very best JUCO's this year to be able to pull in the very best elite players in 2014 & it makes a lot of sense. To have that kind of season next year-win our side of the ACC, Win the ACC & go to a major Bowl will have our 305 kid's looking at the "U" again as "THE SCHOOL " again.

Sony & K.C McDermott 2 5* prospects right there in 2014 & I don't believe AG would even have to work that hard to pull these 2 especially McDermott. But if we have that kind of a season we all are expecting-we absolutely have to land this immediate help on the DL & will make our life for the elites in 2014 a lot better.

AG IS A SMART 1 & GOTTS TO RESPECT THE "TIE "!!!

    • pretty sure Bond is looking for exactly what Miami's scheme can provide....sole reason we are recruiting him is so he can be a missile off the edge

    • Scheme and technique are important. It's the reason Bryant de-committed.

Our scheme, our lack thereof, sucks now. This kid is smart to be asking these questions.

    • Well we know what Coach D's excuse has been for us not being better at stoping the run & getting after the QB well, if we are lucky enough to get these 2 then, that's 2 big weapons with CP staying healthy-Chick coming in this year better & he's got the tolls now to work with. Our fresh that saw a lot of playing time last year along with being able to scheme with a lot of this talent-can't use that excuse any more,. Now I know 2 players are not just the answer but, it's a huge filler at a pos. that we absolutely have to have it & this will def. show if Coach D can handle it at this level & personnel was just the prob or-is he just not cut out for it here. I hope AG pulls this talent & gives him these new weapons to work with & we'll be able to see early if his style of D is for here & are we getting close with just the personnel argument.

If he comes, he'll be competing with McCord at the Rush End position. Every 3-4 defense needs an ELITE pass rusher since they are the ones that are primarily expected to get to the qb on passing plays, and only allowed to get in the backfield. Just look at all of the 3-4 teams in the league (Ravens-Suggs, Packers-Matthews, Steelers-Harrison, 49ers-Smith, etc). The scheme doesn't survive without one.

With the commitment of Figueroa and if we land Bond, and sign Big6, I wonder if Green moved to the other end, and will compete with Chickillo. I like Green, but I am not convinced he has the speed or mobility needed to play that rush end position.

When did we make the switch to a 3-4?

in multiple interviews over the last two yrs, golden has said he wants a hybrid defense...

this allows flexibility to scheme successfully against diff types of offenses. against acc and non-conf competition.

My point exactly. That Rush End position or Jack LB as Bama calls it is still a DE more often than not. I understand the point is that we're getting more talent to go to a multiple look and I sure agree with that, just don't want people thinking we're about to go throw 4 true linebackers on the field, because for the most part we're not.

versatility is the key word....you can tell that the staff likes to recruit guys who can adjust and do a lot of different things

    • Bond is smart to delve into the scheme. Coach D has favored a soft/containment style, although he did allow more penetration the 2nd half of the season -- but when the chips were down on that last play in Va he only rushed 2 & the QB had all day to find the open crossing pattern. No aggressive DL wants to play passive -- its aginst the nature of being a DL.

Everyone talks about more pressure on the QB, but until Coach D changes his scheme -- it aint gonna happen.

If I were an aggressive DLineman, I"d have a hard time committing to the U without some kind of assurance that the scheme was changeing -- from AG.

we blitzed an obscene amount in the 2nd half of the season....

no one could get to the QB...

It doesn't count if you don't do it effectively. Good Coaches find a way -- just like they did to us on so many 3rd & longs.

      Truth!

Colin McCarthy was a great Blitzer. However, he would suck at it in the current scheme.

Name a consistant pass risher on our team right now...exactly...that's why we didn't get to the QB
