JUCO DE Devante Bond is set to take his official visit to Miami this weekend. One question Bond wants to find out during his trip is how will he be used in UM's scheme?

If he comes, he'll be competing with McCord at the Rush End position. Every 3-4 defense needs an ELITE pass rusher since they are the ones that are primarily expected to get to the qb on passing plays, and only allowed to get in the backfield. Just look at all of the 3-4 teams in the league (Ravens-Suggs, Packers-Matthews, Steelers-Harrison, 49ers-Smith, etc). The scheme doesn't survive without one.
With the commitment of Figueroa and if we land Bond, and sign Big6, I wonder if Green moved to the other end, and will compete with Chickillo. I like Green, but I am not convinced he has the speed or mobility needed to play that rush end position.

My point exactly. That Rush End position or Jack LB as Bama calls it is still a DE more often than not. I understand the point is that we're getting more talent to go to a multiple look and I sure agree with that, just don't want people thinking we're about to go throw 4 true linebackers on the field, because for the most part we're not.

Bond is smart to delve into the scheme. Coach D has favored a soft/containment style, although he did allow more penetration the 2nd half of the season -- but when the chips were down on that last play in Va he only rushed 2 & the QB had all day to find the open crossing pattern. No aggressive DL wants to play passive -- its aginst the nature of being a DL.
Everyone talks about more pressure on the QB, but until Coach D changes his scheme -- it aint gonna happen.
If I were an aggressive DLineman, I"d have a hard time committing to the U without some kind of assurance that the scheme was changeing -- from AG.
