CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes moved up to No. 14 in this week’s AP Poll following blowout wins over previously No. 1-ranked Duke and Florida State.
Miami (15-3, 6-0), which defeated Duke 90-63 and Florida State 71-47, has won seven consecutive games and leads the ACC.
The Hurricanes cracked the top 25 last week coming in at No. 25 for their first ranking in three years and is one of the nation’s hottest teams. It is the highest Miami has been ranked since February 2002.
“The way I look at is our basketball program is really a marketing arm for the university,” coach Jim Larranaga said. “People read the newspapers, watch the games on TV, and they often make judgements as to what kind of school it is based on what they see and what the media talks about. Right now anything that is positive is a very positive thing for the university and our athletic department.”
They’ll look to continue their success on Wednesday at Virginia Tech (11-8, 2-4).
Other ranked teams in the ACC include: No. 5 Duke and No. 19 North Carolina State.

It's nice to see the interest increase in the team, but I wouldn't get too upset with the ranking.
A couple of things to keep in mind...
* Only four teams since 1989 have moved up more than 11 spots in one week.
* Losses to Florida Gulf Coast and Indiana State.
* Miami is getting plenty of respect as multiple national media members have stated they believe UM is a sleeper Final Four team.
