Today is the day that players across the country fulfill their dreams of signing a letter of intent to receive a scholarship to play football.
It's a day of hope for fans to find the next star at their favorite school and a day that college coaches believe that brighter days are ahead.
It’s a day where the diehard college football fan is glued to the internet, their phones, and the television to get the latest news while the rest of the country wonders why the madness even exists in the first place.
It’s National Signing Day. A holiday for some, an obsession by others.
The Miami Hurricanes finished 9-4 last season, which is their best record in four years. It was a season that began with promise with a 7-0 start, but also one that has left a sour taste after a disappointing loss in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
The optimists will point towards the nine wins, the most by Al Golden at Miami, and that the NCAA investigation is finally behind the program. The critics will point towards the four blowout losses of at least 18 points.
Either way, UM needs a strong recruiting class in 2014 to build on for the future and nine have already enrolled including running back Joseph Yearby.
There are 16 other prospects who are expected to sign their letters of intent with Miami including two quarterbacks Brad Kaaya (West Hills, Calif.) and Malik Rosier (Mobile, Ala.). Kaaya is more heralded than Rosier, who also plans to play baseball at UM, as the seventh-ranked pro-style quarterback.
Top recruits don’t guarantee wins, but there’s no question it’s a good start.
Who will be the first prospect to officially sign his letter of intent to Miami? Guess the player and the time. The winner will receive six months to InsideTheU for free.
